I finally found the time to install a Scythe S-Flex SFF21E on my Venomous X. The rear exhaust fan is also a S-Flex. Both were set @ 800 RPM. Room temp: 21 C Idle temp: 25-32C Load temp (prime95): 54-55C (after 40 minutes) Load temps are marginally better (1 or 2C) using a S-Flex compared to a Scythe...

I have applied Matrix to my i5-750/Venomous X combo. The results look good to me but I haven't tested different thermal compounds and as such can't compare it to anything but it doesn't seem to hurt my temps. It is easy to apply and seemed less gunky then Arctic Silver Ceramique.

Hi rootdown, I would have thought that the S-Flex (with its higher static pressure) would be better as the CPU heatsink fan, with the Slipstream as a rear exhaust instead. Have you tested this fan configuration? I'd be interested to know if there is a difference. Hi JamieG, You are right, the S-Fle...

I haven't seen professional reviews of the Venomous X but I bought it recently for my new build and I am load-testing it right now. It is looking good. My setup is not *silent* but it is very quiet nonetheless: Case: Antec P182 (top exhaust blocked) CPU: i5 750 (stock MHz) CPU Heatsink: Venomous X F...

Tower-style heatsink for NSK 2480

I am looking to upgrade the CPU cooler of my HTPC . At the moment, I've got a E6300 being cooled by a Q6600 stock Intel heatsink. I am looking at getting the best (silent) cooling possible since there is a possibility the E6300 will be replaced by a Q6600 (I haven't decided). I was set on buying a N...

Satin finish probably will be more forgiving than Black Gloss. Imperfection in the sanding job can be seen with Black Gloss. I decided to paint on a whim without putting too much thought into it beforehand. I had a leftover can of Black Gloss, so I used that. Same thing for sanding. Once I came to m...

Painted it black!

I painted black the silver front bezel of the NSK2480 this afternoon. I used Krylon Fusion - Black Gloss spray paint. That was more work than I expected. Even though the can says no priming/sanding, you should sand off the bezel's silver paint. I learned it the hard way  as the Krylon paint wo...

*Solved* Replacing fan on 8800GT - computer will not boot

I've been running a 8800GT for a while now with an Accelero S1. I want to OC the card to get a little more life out of it and decided to add a fan on the S1 (fan would kick in only while gaming). I thought i'd use the card's fan connector since i've used both PWM fan headers on my board (Gigabyte P3...

I've got a SI-120 on my A64 3000+. It cools it very effectively, i've read somewhere that it is superior to the XP-120 when coupled with a slow fan. I second Tzupy, the NB47J should not obstruct the card if you keep the stock cooler. If you plan on putting a NV Silencer on your 7800, it will definitely obstruct.

My Antec P180 system: finally entering the 21st century!

I hadn't built a new (up to date) system since around 1999 as i have been able to extend the life of my Asus P2B (440BX) mobo to the max. Incremental updates of pretty much all the components (P2 350 -> Celeron 850 @ 1.1Ghz -> Tualatin 1.1 @ 1.4) kept me afloat up to this year. Although updates and ...
