They are only 5 bucks cheaper than the 900A at SVC, yet the official Thermalright price list quotes a $20 difference in prices(29.95 bare ALX-800, 49.95 bare SLK-900).

Interesting.

Right. It is a hybrid copper/aluminum HS.

I'm curious about the performance of this HS. It doesn't actually seem too much cheaper than the SLK-800, but I'm starting to think that the ALX will replace the SLK-800A in the lineup, since very few stores seem to even stock the SLK-800A anymore.

New Thermalright ALX-800 (aluminum SLK-800)

I'd like to see one of these on the SPCR bench...

I strongly suggest not trying this. Those fans are so loud because they are high(6000+) RPM fans. A better bet might be to use a 60-80mm adapter and strapping a larger slower fan on. Of course, if you're really feeling dangerous(disclaimer: I'm not responsible for fried components)... You can downlo...

Regarding a Micro ATX motherboard that has the capability to undervolt, I was searching around and found this page through Google. It shows the Biostar M7NCG MATX boards can go down as low as 1.25V. Mind you, these are the older versions (1.0~1.4), not the new M7NCG-400. I have no idea if this info...

It's a mistake, isn't it? Well, that number is just ballpark to the highest possible power dissipation. The A-Breds are rated at 38A maximum core amperage. I'm quite sure that you would never even come close to drawing that amount in the real world and certainly not if you reduced the multi...

The Applebred Duron is actually a T-Bred with 192K of cache disabled. The Thorton is a Barton with 256k of cache disabled. Same idea, but different root cores. That said, I've read that some of the A-Breds will do 1500mhz at 1.1 vcore. A 1.1 vcore will give that chip a max power dissipation of 41.8 ...

Plus is it true, even though I have a board only supporting 266 can a person in theory run up to a Barton 3200 333 it just downgrades it's clock speed to the 266? It'll keep the same multiplier and just go at (mult x 133) on most boards. However, you're giving up a significant amount of clock(mult ...

I got the T-Bred B 2100+ from Newegg(retail version) last week. I'm running it at 1.57vcore(it's a 1.6v DUTC3) and 13x160(2080Mhz). I actually downgraded from a 2500+, and it's running a lot cooler.

The northbridge heats up when you raise the FSB. Often you can get more stabilty/a higher FSB by cooling the NB. Often, it is a good practice to lower the multiplier and raise the FSB to distribute the heat generation among the components.

Or perhaps try one of the new Applebred durons. It's 1.5v by default and the unused cache gives it extra non-heat generating die space. I've read of people running them at 1.1v/1500mhz. I'd bet that passively cooling a 1.1v a-bred at 5x200 would be no problem at all. You'd have to put a pretty big h...

The Duron 750 takes 1.60-1.65 volts. It puts out 32W+. I don't think you'd want to try that Coolermaster fanless.

Background noise perhaps?

Has anyone ever done a comparison of a Dell vs. a custom-silenced rig in the same environment?

I used it earlier today to knock my 2500+(1833mhz) down to 917mhz. The case temps dropped pretty signifcantly. Unfortunately I have the A7N8X(non E), so I don't get the undervolting options anyway.
