We have a lot of DC71/7600's at work, and they all stay very quiet even under heavy use. Its a semi-btx layout with a thermal path for the CPU. A big step in the right direction, compared to the earlier D530 SFF models, that were borderline useless at anything other than idle, with the same Pressie ...

If you can live with something thats merely quiet, the Arctic NV5 Cooler fits fine, as long as you trim .50 inch off the plastic exhaust shroud. I originally planned on a MSI 7950GT passive, but none were in stock and I just settled for a Asus vanilla 7950GT and the above mentioned cooler. I run it ...

In the XP-120 review, you had the Zalman in the charts as a reference. Could you be persuaded to do the same here? Always nice to have a fixed reference. I would buy the XP anyhow, if not for the n3rd factor then because I just love the look of the pipes - they kinda remind me of performance headers...

It seems as though some of them have tried it out on 80GB versions as well, and did the trick. Apparently all 7K250's produced later than 0404 should have this installed already. The SATA link may have been down, but I've just downloaded it with success. If you look through the thread you'll find mo...

I removed my 120mm grills, removed the 92mm fan from the PSU and closed the hole. Opened up the rear slots on the PSU and made a very simple cardboard PSU duct (work in progress / proff of concept)
The PSU never goes above 1500rpm (starts at around 1300) And the air leaving it is pleasantly cool-ish.

If I ever get the option, I would keep my main workstation, but move gaming rig and fileserver to another room. FS can be headless anyhow, so no need for a expensive KVM. And with the gaming rig I can live without super über crisp picture quality, so a simple extention (maybe with DVI cable) would b...

Dont wanna burst your bubble or anything, but a 2400xp, one harddrive and a low range FX5200, is not a hot system. I doubt that you really need the case fan. Personally I'm not a big fan of the 70mm fans, but I've actually just made a small test on a Barton 2800+ with a mid sized no name heatsink + ...

Found me a heatsink. Used to cool my CellyT @ 1.466 with some 7v fan. I cut off 3 fins at each end to make room for the holes. If this doesn't cut it, I'll try placing a Intel boxed fan close to the back of the case running at 5v. I did a test with this fan, and I can't hear it at all. Think this si...

Underclocking TI4200 while not gaming?
I've bought myself a FX5900XT for my gaming rig, and am thinking about using the TI4200 it replaces in my workstation. I seldom play games on the workstation, but since my gamerig is 100% dedikated to racing sims, its not possible for me to play FPS type games on it. I use a GF3 TI200 right now, but...

For giggles, I just looked at the PSU in one of our HP Pavilion T260 test machines here at work. The unit is rated at 250W, with 14a on 12v, 25a on 5v and 18a on the 3.3v. Specs are: P4 3.06 1GB PC2700 (2x512) 250GB Maxtor drive 16x DVD reader 4x DVD+R Cardreader SB Audigy 2 Asus TV-tuner ATI Radeon...

Managing the onboard fan control in HP Pavilion PC's
I've done a search, but couldn't find this anywhere, so here goes: If you are the proud owner of a new'ish HP Pavilion, with a thermally controlled CPU and Case fan, you should be able to control the setup via the Advanced (uhuhhuuh secret) Bios, hit F11 during POST to enter. In the health monitorin...
