My NeoHE 430HE has worked okay with an A8N32-Deluxe motherboard for about a week now. Handled Prime95 stress test fine for about six hours; haven't done any load testing for both CPU and video at the same time yet.

Gainward Silent FX PowerPack! Ultra/980XP

Has anyone seen this video card yet?

http://www.gainwardusa.com/news/press_S ... tra980.htm

Looks like they took a GeForce FX 5700 card and combined it with a modified version of the Zalman ZM80-HP. Seems like a pretty good out of the box silent video card.

I think you need to upgrade to XP. I don't remember getting this to work on IBM laptop with a older ATI chip under Windows 2000. Once the machine went to XP, it worked fine.

Hey MikeP, I know someone who just picked up a SuperTornado and has the same problem you've mentioned (fan not spinning up for a while and making a noise). I'm not sure what the power consumption of the computer is, so I can't say if it's the same problem you have. Did you try with a higher power us...

I think HardOCP had a picture back in Dec. or Nov. of a socket (plus CPU and HSF) that sheared cleanly off a MB (very neat, looked like it'd been desoldered). Hmm, I guess there's where that random thought came from. Of course, the horizontally mounted CPUs in the Shuttle XPCs shouldn't have such i...

I haven't tried the product before but I've done some ducting in the past. Here's my 2p on it. From the website description it appears that when used on the CPU heatsink fan, it's for directing the hot air out from the top of the heatsink. (But then the website's description seems to imply you could...

I've run a Slot 1 Pentium III 1GHz CPU fanless on a server 24/7 before, but it underclocked to 75Mhz FSB. No undervolting because the motherboard didn't support it. Admittedly, the server doesn't see much 100% cpu time, but it worked out very well. Don't know what brand of heatsink it was, but it wa...

Well, I don't think steel cases are inherently good or bad; I believe most the issues have to due with the thickness of the metal. The PA-810's side panels are rather thin so it's easier for them vibrate. Had they been heavier (or perhaps had different joints to the other pieces), things might have ...

I also own a PA-810 and actually use it as the basis of my "quieter" system. I didn't originally intend it to be this way, it was one of two cases that I had when I was building my quieter system. I agree with mudboy on the problems of a steel case. However, I was able to reduce the problem by putti...

I've heard both a WD 120GB SE and a WD 100GB SE drive. I have to say that they're relatively quiet; no high pitched whine at all.

When you're doing disk intensive stuff you do get the usual clicks and noise. But no whine.

Speaking of loading power supplies, did you see the Overclocker's review of the Thermaltake Silent PurePower? They spliced two ATX cables together to run two motherboards off one PSU.

They didn't give much in terms of noise numbers, but I thought running two computers off one PSU was new.

Who's recommendations?...

is the role of the cables and connectors that deliver the DC voltage. The cables & connects are defined by the ATX/PS2 standard, and it is what makes PSUs interchangeable. HOwever, the longer the cable, the higher the voltage drop through it. Combine this with a connector that has to be somewhat sl...

Hypothetically.... Say you're buying 10 from BG Micro. That's 10 x US$2.75 + US$6 (shipping) = US$33.50. If you ship global priority mail I think you can fit 10 fans in 2 of the large sized flat rate envelopes. That's US$9 x 2 = US$18.00. (I don't know how fast it will get to Europe, but it's not th...

Has anyone ever tried any of the quiet power supplies (Q-Tech, Seasonic, Zalman, etc.) with a higher than 300W power rating?

Does the noise/temperature compare well with the 300W version? Is there much difference?
