Can someone please comment on the suggestion that a buzzing power supply is an indication that you've chosen a power supply that far exceeds your power requirements? For example, you've chosen a 500W power supply when all you really needed for your system was a 300W power supply, and that situation ...

What Aris said is fair enough. I just want to add that I contacted Corsair support and they were extremely helpful and they let me RMA the unit. I haven't sent it back yet, but, you know, I don't want to bad-mouth Corsair in this thread. If you get a buzzer, they'll take it back. I guess that's the ...

On mainboards: I recently ordered the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R instead of the Asus P5K because everyone was complaining that the Asus boards run hotter. More heat means more cooling means more noise. Gigabyte has a lot of boards and I separate them into 3 categories: those that run DDR2 memory, those t...

Shmanky's System (P182/GA-P35C-DS3R/E6850/NinjaB/HD501LJ)
The last time I built a machine was in the year 2000. So I guess it lasted me 7 years. But, I've replaced everything except the mainboard and CPU. With that in mind, I want to build a machine that will last 3-5 years assuming that the mainboard and CPU will be permanent choices. I do programming (Ja...

Stock for now. Looking into one before I do my build, but maybe you can recommend a good one or point me in the direction of where the reviews are located on this website? Well I was hoping you knew more about this than I do, but okay; based on what I've read here on SPCR, the popular coolers seem ...

Why does Gigabyte have 27 boards based on the P35 chipset??
I was hoping to get the Asus P5K Deluxe, which would have made things simple, but everyone seems to complain that the P5K runs hotter than Gigabyte's offering, so fine, I'll get the Gigabyte. But when I go to the Gigabyte Web site, I see that they have no fewer than 27 motherboards based on the P35 ...

Want to buy the Antec MX-1, but it's not a NAS
Sorry if this doesn't appear silence-related, but it is, because I need to buy a networked and silent hard disk enclosure. So I want to set up a NAS (network-attached storage). And I want to stick that nice Samsung 500GB in there. But I need to enclose the Samsung in a quiet and cool enclosure, like...

The hard disk in the MacBook Pro is rated at 2.4 bels idle
According to [ http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/macbookproled/systemprofile.html ], the 2.5 inch hard disk drive in the MacBook Pro released June 05, 2007, is the Fujitsu MHW2120BH. My concern about this drive is that according to the device's PDF specifications , linked from Fujitsu's Web site , t...

It's a good thing that only need 80GB, but for those like me that want at least 500GB, our only option are 3.5 inchers.

Any opinion on the Seagate FreeAgent external hard disk?
So this external hard disk looks pretty, and I used to like Seagate, but does anyone know its decibel rating?

* bump * I'm also looking for this card. I couldn't find it at a few Canadian web stores, and a local computer store couldn't order it for me either. Newegg doesn't ship to Canada, I don't think. I've been using this card for a few years with its fan's power cable disconnected from the card. I also have my case wide open (no sides or top), and no case fans. I've also been gaming with it (Unreal Tournament 2004) with its fan disconnected. I would suggest disconnecting the power, but adding a ...

Schmanky: Put simply, framerate and drive performance aren't necessarily one and the same. Sorry, I did not mean to suggest that Direct 3D rendering was related to hard disk performance. Yes it's mostly in the GPU. I was talking about the difference between how the NT and 9x kernels allow access to...

In response to some questions/statements: "ME always outperforms XP" maybe that should read Fat32 outperforms NTFS? Well I've installed Windows XP on a FAT32 partition before and I still could not get as high a framerate in Unreal Tournament as I could when playing in Windows ME. "How did you get 2...

I'm setting up a box right now... My comments on your experiment, Queue.... I find that Windows ME always outperforms Windows XP.. on virtually all fronts, whether that be disk access or Direct 3D rendering. So I expect you would get lower results on an NT based machine. I am *fairly certain* that ...
