http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6717246.pdf I believe you have to look at Fig 3 and read the whole text to understand it. At least I needed too :) From Tzupy's first post one can easily misinterpret the whole thing. "I believed heatsink base should be flat - not anymore" at least lead me to believe...

Mobile CPU comparison chart w/ TDP & voltage
I found this through http://www.overclockers.com.au Currently covering over 390 mobile CPUs, this comprehensive comparison will allow you to easily compare up to 14 different specifications for each and every CPU! http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=347 What's interesting for us is that th...

Thanks for that link! Although, those configurations are user-posted, and many aren't very good. I tried out five different ones for my ABIT IS7-E - one showed "PSU", another "Mosfets", and a couple of others just showed screwed-up characters. I think you'll be better off searching around to find us...

Nice idea using bike tyre tube, never thought of that. Seems it would be a little more rigid than some sewing strap which I'd planned to use for my suspension. I think I'll try it someday - the only reason I haven't suspended my drives yet are that I'm afraid of the disks moving too much every time ...

With a little bit of airflow I think it'll be just fine with any of the designs. Because you are thinking about making a HDD heatsink I was too hasty and assumed it was going to be passively cooled. And, as you say, it's alot easier to make the top one compared to the bottom one if you haven't got t...

Nice to hear you found SPCR =) I'd recommend the the last one. There's a reason all heatsinks look like that.. in the two above, I reckon the heat from the part of the heatsink above the HDD but below the top-most part will heat the air in between, which will rise and give unnecessary heat to the to...

Can anyone at SPCR say how the weight is distributed in the heatsink? One thing that initially attracted me to the Ninja was a couple places (SPCR included) commenting how most of the weight seemed to be in the base. Maybe someone who has a Ninja and someone who has an Infinity could place it on so...

I'd never dare putting almost 1 kg worth of HSF on my mobo. I'm using my case as a footstool, and sometimes the case gets a little bumping from my legs/feet.. aren't mobos designed for something like half a kilo as the maximum weight for HSF's? Or are newer mobos designed to be able to handle more w...

I'm no fan guru (there are lots of them around here) but.. I have to ask, do you know that the yellow wire is the tach-wire (i.e., your fan has three cables)? Sorry if the question sounds stupid to you. I'm not "dumbifying" you, I just don't know whether tach-wires usually are yellow, and it doesn't...

Re: Replace Lian Li 80 mm case fans??
Is it worth replacing the Lian Li case fans? Imo it is, yes. I have the same case and replaced three fans (I don't use the top one, I covered that hole up) with Panaflo L1A's. It made a big difference for me. And considering your temps are so low I guess you could run all your fans at 5 volts witho...

OT, sorry. Snutten, in english when you use the word "professional" you often mean "a person who works with something professionally". You never (ok, hardly ever) use the swedish word "professionell" in that context. Have you ever heard a swede say "jag är professionell" (I'm a professional) and mea...

You found the easist way to get 5V. That's what most people do, reverse the pins on a molex connector. As for your system.. if you're not willing to make a big system overhaul, exchanging both this and that, I find it hard to see how you can have it much more quiet as your main source of noise is a ...

Some things to think about when buying a NB47J.. 1) Make sure your motherboard has mounting holes at the northbridge, as this is how the NB47J is mounted. I can't really tell from this picture , but it looks like it has mounting holes around the nortbridge. 2) Given the placement of the northbridge ...

Ecto, you skipped the word "professional" in Ed's post. "Professional" implies in business ; "sitting at home" is not professional. As someone who works in a field where raytracing is done professionally, I can assure you that no one is running OC'd machines at their business (no one that I've ever...

I'm still trying to figure out what sort of professional requirement would involve overclocking. Seriously? There's a lot. Think raytracing, video editing, or some kind of encoding, which all has been mentioned in this thread I believe. They all require raw CPU power by the megahertz's. But as some...

Overclocker here. My philosophy is just like meglamaniac's - first comes silence, then comes speed. If you have a quiet computer, and it's possible to run it faster without increasing noise, why not? :) I'm a gamer myself, so I "need" the speed.. and, of course, the challenge of having an overclocke...

I don't think there's any problem with the tape or cardboard, but it's better to be safe than sorry - make sure you check up on your materials (what temperature it endures, if it releases toxic fumes when heated etc..) In most cases it won't be a problem. If it would be THAT dangerous it'd have a wa...

PLEASE reduce file sizes of posted images!
For all of us modemers - there's not many of us, I know, but we DO exist - it's really sad that some threads contain so many big images that the thread essentially becomes unviewable :( For example, this thread contains almost 1 MB of big images! I waited and waited but it's simply too many KB for m...

How far from the fan do you measure exhaust temp?
I was fiddling around with noting my PSU temps when I came to think of this, so I tried measuring the temp both right next to the fan, like this: http://danny.swalas.org/pc60/temp_probe/probe_near_fan.jpg And ~4 cm from the fan, like this: http://danny.swalas.org/pc60/temp_probe/probe_away_from_fan....
