The least noisy model in terms of air turbulence is the AF80CT (80mm model). The AF120CT's very minor buzz is only audible at a full 12 volts; drop it using the included resistor and the motor noise is dramatically reduced even further. Personally, the only noise I hear behind my own machine (where ...

QuietPC has a shop in the UK, right here. Check them out, and consider the AcoustiProducts Acoustifan AF120CT; I'm hoping it's not too expensive an option for you; it's 17 Pounds for the fan and another 4 Pounds for shipping via Royal Mail Special Delivery, or one more Pound still for UPS Standard U...

I have a bunch of "chrome" rubber-like automotive door mold that I could prolly cover up the jagged edges with, but I wonder if it's a little too thick and might impede with the fan or its blades; I'll take a closer look at the geometry when I get a chance. Thanx for the info though; I'll definitely...

What's the best tool for that, and how clean will it be after I'm done? Would it involve sanding down the rough edges? I'd hate to have to be sanding; that'd involve removing everything from the system to keep metal dust off components.

I started this thread and poll; all three NXP-201s I've used gave off hideous buzzing. No, the noiseless controllers I mention are the one above (the 3.5" bay item with blue LEDs; the brushed metal one you mentioned) and as I said, the Cooler Master Aerogate I.

I am using exactly that one, except in black, not silver, on Alpha Three, and it makes zero noise. I believe the Cooler Master Aerogate I is also PWM, and that one doesn't make any noise either. Primarily it's the Vantec that does it, and I'm not sure why.

I do believe it would be fine, yes. I have heard mention from a couple people that there were cases where the metal frame around the core on the VPU packaging would have to be removed using a fine edge because it doesn't allow the Iceberq full contact to the VPU; I have not checked for this problem ...

Yes, the Vantec Iceberq 4 does make a mid-high frequency whine at full speed; I have it hooked up to my rheobus. At full speed it is audible, but at 3/4 speed the whine's frequency drops to about mid-low frequency and it is harder to hear it over everything else (the other fans and the five hard dri...

Please check out my post, here, regarding the Acoustiproducts Acoustifans; they kick ass!!! I believe leaving them at full speed (no resistor) will serve your air moving needs just fine, at a very low noise ceiling. Attaching them to a rheobus should serve to enhance the experience even more, since ...

Safest bet is still the MCX159, which comes with the clips you need, and even the cushioning pads for exposed-core chipsets like yours. If you can spend the money, it's well worth it. I used Arctic Silver 5 on mine; it's installed on a P4P800. I had to slide the clip to one side and bend the two leg...

Find yourself a Swiftech MCX159 kit and just take away the fan. Beats every other northbridge solution I know of right out of the water.

Performance PCs has them, and is where I bought mine; custom-sleeved, too!

Vantec Nexus NXP-201 noisy!

I have had lots of experience with three examples of the Vantec Nexus NXP-201 fan controller, two silver Vantec onces and also a silver PC Toys branded one. From what I've noticed they all give off a very annoying, mid-high frequency buzz that is noticeable with a computer that mainly puts out mid-l...

Problem solved...

I went and downloaded good ol' PowerStrip by Entech and am using it to dumb the brightness back down; working like a charm! Strangely it's set for -100% brightness, but logically speaking shouldn't -100% be totally black? Oh well; works silent, looks great. I'm happy!

Lo and behold, if I set my brightness to 60 or above, the buzz is alm...

Seeking silent LCD...

I'm beginning to notice my LCD's buzz more and more. Has anyone here noticed the sound produced by their display unit (CRT or LCD) other than myself? And has anyone taken action to deal with it? Because from my sitting position the LCD I'm using is more audible than the computer, and when I go behin...

Are the dual-platter Spinpoint drives still quieter than my ST340014A? I also noticed the strange thing about that review in that he indicates that an elastic mount is, in use, quieter than the Smart Drive, because not only was the drive inaudible at idle, but iwqas also inaudible during seeks (when...

It is interesting to hear that the 40GB Spingpoint is of entirely different design... What is the quietest Samsung Spinpoint that people have tried around here? And is it safe to run it in the SilentDrive enclosure? Oh and, thanks for the warm reception, LOL. I didn't know I had caused quite a stir ...
