Re: Cheap 90 nm 939 pin A64 out soon

Smaller transistors means more leakage current, so the wattage drop might not be as big as it has been in earlier process transitions. But, we'll see soon. In this thread you can read about the power consumption (and my optimistic dreams about my next system..). So far I've seen that the new D0 one...

but it's still strange that they don't follow their naming convention . The name should be something like MX7GM ... Yeah, but it's not the only one. Seems like they've started using the chipset number in the motherboard name lately. For instance, all their socket T boards have 865 or 915 in it. Thi...

Cheap 90 nm 939 pin A64 out soon

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and 3200+ for socket 939 will soon be available, using 90 nm technology and the new D0 revision. They cost 173 and 208 USD respectively at monarchcomputer.com . This should give us cheaper 939 systems with lower power consumption (~50 W?). I don't care much about dual channel mem...

That's nice to know for the future. Now, all we need is motherboard with proper support and probably safer cooling solutions for mobile A64 wouldn't hurt either. Yeah, indeed. I haven't seen any articles about it either, strange. I'm so tired after reading thousands of threads at various forums, an...

The UltraX is wonderful!!! I have used it for 6 months now, it's one of the best. I think it's quite silent, but actually I really don't care about that. It's the flat design with full size keys in standard arrangement that I like. Some people compares the keys with the ones of di Novo. I haven't tr...

I've thought of that too DanceMan, I'm really curious what the orientation of the heatsink does to performance. I guess the test setup Ralf Hütter is using is better than having the mobo vertical like in tower cases.

Nice review Ralf Hütter! Are you going to test the XP-90 soon too?

Edit: (I saw Mike C in the news announcement and didn't think any further...)
I think the XP-90 comes very close in performance, has anyone seen a side by side comparsion somewhere?

Though I like the idea it's still only a bandaid that, like AMD's Cool-N-Quiet, does nothing if the computer is used at full power all the time. At full power the only thing that helps is a more efficient CPU. Yes, we know. And many of us consider Prescott as a bad idea in many ways, but there are ...

Found this, announced on Anandtech September 1.

Multiplier underclocking with P4 finally?

Yes I know it's more than yesterdays news, but some of you surely don't know about it. Seems like a good reason to wait for the 6xx series if you are an Intel fan.

XP-90 is designed to fit all AMD socket 754/939/940 motherboards and Intel Pentium 4 socket 478 motherboards. So far, we have not found any board that is not compatible with XP-90.
This heatsink is good news for everyone who can't use the XP-120 with their motherboard.

Seagate have announced an idle noise of 20 Db (25 Db for 7200.7). That's BELs not dB or dBA. And it's not quite so simple as that. The 7200.7 single disk versions are cited to be under 2.5 BELs at idle. The 2.0 BEL for the 7200.8 is only for the single platter version. Which means the difference co...

Well, well. Looks like nVidia is not doing quite as badly as people feared. You can't just compare the used wattage. According to the article the problem is that some nVidia cards use a lot of 12 V. So even if a system uses 200 W and have a 350 W PSU, it might not work properly because the PSU can'...
