After a long and carefull searching around I placed an order two days ago for a 7200.7 200GB SATA HDD (supposedly not yet with NCQ but who can utilize it now? Not me...) Are you sure? When the 200 GB model was announced they said it had NCQ, I THINK . Not sure at all. Anyway, I think the platter si...

Cthulhu, välkommen till SPCR ! I didn't know that there was a difference between the two versions. I'm really looking forward to see what the new 7200.8 is like. Something tells me that Seagate must have realized that the 7200.7 is to loud for being a modern Barracuda, and yes, 20 bels for the sin...

Confusion... What I always thought: Neither the SATA nor the PATA version of the 7200.7 have AAM enabled, and the end user can't change it like you can on many other HDs. The reason why Seagate won't use it is because they're not allowed, it's something about a patent. Can't remember, but I've seen ...

I've never heard that any 7200.7 would have AAM enabled. People are saying that it is disabled and you can't change it. Check the forum.

Bro, this is just the 35w being taken to a new stepping and 90nm. The reviewer obviously didn't realize that there were 35w chips released before using 130nm tech. If you read the text at xbitlabs you see that the 62 > 35 W statement came from a principal analyst at insight 64, not the reviewer. I ...

Mobile A64 Oakville = LOW POWER!

Found at Xbitlabs about the new Athlon 64 with D0 stepping : The new (90nm) AMD part is about half the size (84mm2 versus 145mm2) of its 130nm part, which bodes well for manufacturing capacity and yield characteristics. Even more importantly for mobile applications, the new chip consumes about half ...

Native Command Queuing, it's for increasing the performance for HDs. I think it's the next big thing but I cannot describe it very well. It's about making the HD read/write the data in a more optimal and efficient order (=faster) . The drawback? I haven't heard about any motherboard that supports it...

Ok, maybe they're just doing this just for the attention, but I doubt it. They ...

Re: Seagate answers about 7200.8

The drives have been released, but to the OEM manufacturers. We do not have an exact date for release to the open market but the date they were announced preceeds their actual availability by approximately 120 days. The drives are pre-sold to manufacturers for at least that much time. So my questio...

Just put the HD on a towel or something like that on the floor for a minute, just to hear the difference. Then you realize what you have to do.

The case is amplifying the vibrations a lot.

In general, Seagate Barracuda HDs are good quality and in many cases low noise. Barracuda IV is making very low noises, Barracuda V a bit more. Don't know anything about Barracuda I-III, they're too old. The 7200.7 is known for being the noisest desktop HD made by Seagate for years, espacally the 16...

First, there's a difference between a Mobile Celeron and a Celeron M. Since you've mentioned 1,3 GHz I assume it's the Celeron M you mean. The new Celeron M is a cheaper variant of Pentium M (used in Centrino notebooks). The differences between them is smaller cache, 512 kB for Celeron compared to 1...

I've not enabled Cool n' Quiet, just experimented with it. I'll experiment more when I get my new case. Why? Try CnQ now before you buy anything. Maybe your experience will make you realize that you need sonething else. CnQ should lower he temp a lot in idle. Can't you just make some modding with y...

Re: New ANTEC Case and new PSU, 3700AMB,3700BQE or 2650BQE?

The CPU idles on 50-52 degrees (and the fan speed is almost always max - 2400rpm). ??? Have you enabled Cool n´ Quiet? I'm using an AXP 2500+ with no case fans except for my 350 W Fortron, which never goes over 45 degrees in idle even at 2400 MHz. Using a Zalman 7000 AlCu at min speed. I really do...

I really don't think that you'll find a good compromise. You should be focusing in optimizing your next computer and get the best parts.
