Just don't expect the same performance from Sempron compared to Athlon XP (Barton). It got half the size of L2 cache (ok, maybe not a big difference) and they just don't overclock as good (I've read some reviews somewhere...). I'd never expect a 2500+@2442MHz at stock Vcore as I get from my stock At...

First I just want to say that my post is yesterdays news and many of you have already heard about it. One thing to do for minimizing the HD operations while the computer is not used is to turn off the prefetch function. I've just read about it and haven't tried it yet(visiting my parents, using thei...

Storagereview have done some testing with three hard drive models who have been available for a longer time, just to see if there are some differences between the old and the new ones. One of them is the Seagate Barracuda 7200.7, 160 GB vs 200 GB. The noise has changed very little from 40.4 to 39.7...

Kalel83 Questions: 1. Which BIOS are you running? 2. What is the lowest voltage you can choose in BIOS? 3. What do you say about the integrated sound? I'm wondering if you get interfering noises when moving the pointer or a window. You can only hear them when amplifying the signal quite much. I kno...

Thanks for your replies! You simply observed normal thing, the nature of overclocking :P I think the 11Mhz is not worth the heavy overvolting and you should consider yourself lucky, mine mobile Barton 2500+ need 1.850Vcore to get to 2560Mhz, so... Yes, I know. But I think that the needed volt...

2) 1) As far as SPCR goes, "who cares". The new CPUs are too hot anyway, why make them even hotter by OCing them? Sure, but what about underclocking? Does this mean a 10% limit downwards too? That might be interesting for some SPCR readers. I see no reason why it should be like that, but so far I h...

Abit KV7 owners, overclocking Athlon:Help me!

I'm about to buy a new motherboard and I will probably buy an Abit KV7. I know that NF7-S and AN7 have more features but they cost more, and I'm more into underclocking and undervolting. Since my 2500+ goes up to 2442 MHz @ 1.64 V with my old Asus A7V600-X, I'm quite happy with that. Unfortunately ,...

If you check some photos of the AN7 and NF7 you'll see that the AN7 has a little more space, maybe 2-3 mm for the mounting clip. Since people have done it with the NF7, I don't think it's a problem. Look here.

My Barton is an AQYHA.
I get 222x11 = 2442 MHz (it's locked...) at 1,65 V on my crappy ASUS A7V600-X. Used Prime95 without problems. Using a Zalman CNPS-7000AlCu and 400 MHz RAM.

Try VideoLAN. Works very good for me, no codecs needed. Ten OS supported.
After using VideoLAN, the eternal quest for better codecs feels so unneccesary.

Are you sure it's your MBs fault? Try another graphic card. I've seen some cards do weird things when running a movie.

Have anyone seen a working solution for VIA KT600? Yup - just zap register D5 in the northbridge. It is probably set to '1C' by the BIOS, you need to add the bit that changes '1C' to '1E'. Four solutions for this kind of problem:

1. Rotate the NB heatsink

2. Squeeze the NB heatsink in between the fins of the Zalman 7000, they're very movable

3. Cut the top corner of the NB heatsink

4. Exchange the NB heatsink.

I've seen people doing those things in this forum.

Noiseless mobo-integrated sound cards?

The sound cards integrated in many motherboards generate a lot of buzzing and clicking noises that becomes too much if you connect an amplifier and some big speakers. The pointer and other graphical movements interfere with the sound, probably in the Southbridge. I'm using an external graphic card. ...
