I do think this a good move... BUT I still belive killing the noise is more longterm/effective. Ie getting a Zalman GPU fanless cooler for the graphics card... and a seagate Barracuda, both are noiseless, u would proberly have to put your ear next to it to hear it even. Same with mobo chipset heatsi...

Yeah I considered this also.. simply move the whole PC into another room, lock the door..... wake up 3 hours later open the door see the smoke and fire :D At the end of the day its gonna be quite hard since USB/firewire cables can only run around 5 metres long. And same with my USB Explorer optical ...

Id just yank that fan off ! If your really that desperate just use some software to alter the speed of the read on your dvd/writer so its reading quietly.... Other then that theres normaly no major fuss made over writers :wink: I guess that little fan keeps it cool but since one doesnt burn 100 cds ...

AMD will strike back with there cheap high clocked/running cooler Athlon XPs :)

And then in 3 months time a nice Hammer 3ghz to simply outpace Intel completly... will proberly take a P4-4ghz to beat it 8)

The Nforce2/AMD version does sound better and more modern:) Same Hammer/Prescots are around the corner, but those Shuttles are quite upgradable anyhow. With P4 2.8ghz cpus im sure that 120-150 watts will go up...

Gonna have to wait till 9micron cpus next year before it goes back down, maybe even 9micron cpus will be passive capable :lol:
