Smoke, which component?
Short story: I powered on one of my computers, heard a muffled popping sound ("pffffff"), went to investigate, and saw a little bit of smoke coming from either the motherboard near the VRM circuits, or the PSU. Doing the simple PSU test, where I connect a green wire to a black wire on the ATX connec...

AMD Sempron LE-1250: ECC RAM Support?
Does anyone know if the AMD Sempron LE-1250 supports ECC RAM? I can't seem to find a definitive answer. The datasheet explicitly says that the socket 754 and 939 Semprons support ECC memory, but doesn't say that for the AM2 parts. All the info I could find via google was inconclusive.

I was a little disappointed to see 41 Watts for idle power consumption. If TDP numbers have any relation to power consumption, the Q 45 chipset should be one of the best. Antec P182 - Local pickup only
Hello,
I am selling my Antec P182 case. It's in great condition, used about 1.5 years in a non-smoking home.
I don't have any box for shipping this, so it's local pickup only.
I'm in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
Asking: $90.
PM me if interested, or you want pictures, etc.
Thanks,
Matt

1. a GPU for my server - 2d only. cheap, low power and most impotently lowest temp possible. I would suggest going to ebay and doing a search for "pci video card", and just look for something without any heatsink or fan. Examples would be the old Riva, ATI Rage, Matrox cards. You should be able to ...

Sound dampening material for Antec NSK6580?
I just moved my main system from an Antec P182 to an Antec NSK6580B . Some might call this a downgrade, but I was getting tired of the door on the P182. Plus I caught the NSK6580 on sale at Newegg. One idea I'll throw out that I didn't see in my quick skimming of this thread: get a third drive (a smaller/faster one, like a VelociRaptor or SSD) to use as your system drive, and use the two big drives in a RAID1 (mirrored) configuration. The integrated video circuits are still present in the P versions and still use current. Adding a external PCIe video card additionally loads the Northbridge. So, the TDP is actually higher for the G33/P35 with a video card than when using the IGP. G35 is not the same chip as G33/P35, it is more li...

PCIe slots arent designated 'video' or 'data'. They just transmit data from one place to another. It shouldnt have any issues. Semi-OT: SATA controller/Southbridge considerations?
There's been a handful of good threads here recently about hardware for home fileservers/NAS. Obviously we want silent and low power. One thing I've been thinking about, though, is the quality and performance of the SATA implementation across the more popular consumer southbridges. I haven't been ab...
