More competition in the fan space by a company that is willing to take noise seriously? Sounds like good news to me.
Let's hope the get samples to SPCR for review soon.

An excellent topic for review. I would debatable whether your review is 'overdue', but I wouldn't think to argue with your decisions . I have had the 500GB version of this drive for several months now. I did not consider its acoustics when I bought it since I only planned to use it infrequentl...

Just my $0.02... I just picked up a Seagate 7200.12 500GB drive, and the drive is very quite and very fast. I can't say silent, as the system is in my kitchen and thus a noisy environment, but it is hard mounted in a case on my desk and I can not hear it while seated at the desk (~0.5 meter distance...

Just to follow up on this a little... My PS2 has an optical audio output, and my XBox 360 has HDMI. My Sony HT 5.1 system has multiple inputs of these types. I think Luminair still has an important point. I think the Maui platform is super sweet, but it can't replace my receiver. And if I may add m...

The D2 DSP is actually down on the motherboard as well. There are 2 different card options (7.1 Pre Amp) or 5.1 Amp. Both rely on the D2Audio DSP to do all the digital processing then pass those processed signals out to the amp/pre amp card installed. The amp card is not stand alone (neither is pre...

Mike, First, thank you for all your hard work - both in creating the space and for documenting it for all of us living vicariously through you (yes, I'm one of them). Re: Visco-elastic glue
Have you considered using visco-elastic glue or other such products for panels when lining things (like doors) or perhaps on the floor? A correctly implemented visco-elastic panel absorbs 8 - 16 db worth of vibration. This technology is frequently used in high end speakers, vehicles, buildings wher...

Lacking a couple mil, Mike's measurements are made in a "live" (normal) room, meaning there are echos and that increases the sound level. I'm sure Mike would appreciate any contribution of an anechoic chamber in the Vancouver CA area should anyone find this a matter of concern. :D Actually, I don't...

Re: Acoustic isolation chamber or anechoic chamber?
You seem to have one thing a bit reversed :?: -- it's not about keeping the noise in , but keeping it out . SPCR's self-defined "too noisy" is anything over ~30 dBA/1m -- this is already silent from outside the current room when the door is closed. Sorry for the confusion, I guess I wasn't as clear...

Acoustic isolation chamber or anechoic chamber?
Further thoughts on the anechoic chamber... When you come right down to it, there's no way it can really be an anechoic chamber as it is strictly defined. #1 reason -- it's just too small, and I cannot treat all six inner boundaries of the room. The floor needs to stay firm. <snip> Thinking practic...

Mike: Thanks for the clarification. So to make it silent, I have to take it out of the frame and soft mount it? It would make sense to position the case on the right of the user... Um, if that is the assumption, then why is the door hinged on the left (which means the logical place for the system is to the left of the user)? Maybe this is another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing...

I have an earlier version of the HP slimline series, it is actually fairly quiet. The main disadvantage (from a noise perspective) is that it uses a custom power supply with a 40mm fan - which makes the only noise I can hear from the system (other than the DVD drive when it's in use). Anywhere, my idea is to make a kind of duct that closes off the PSU from the rest of the case. The duct will have a part where i can shove/store extra cables so the PSU gets direct airflow from the side vents. Meanwhile the airflow in the bottom of the case will go up to the duct but then be sucked...
