If anyone has an suggestions (apart from the obvious "reflash the BIOS"), I'd be interested in hearing them... I can only think of the obvious... The downside is the nonzero chance of bricking the MB... I'll see how desperate I get, by trial and error I've found that just going into the setup and e...

In case this provides more information, it seems to be something controlled by the BIOS at power-up, if I manage to get into the BIOS setup before the boot process continues and then, changing nothing, select "Save and exit", the system restarts with the fan running at the correct speed (which in th...

CPU fan stuck on full throttle at power-up

For the last month or so my previously-silent system has had an intermittent problem where the CPU fan is stuck on full throttle at power-up. I've had the system for about two years now and it's only just started happening, generally if I leave it to run for about 15s, power it down again, and then ...

Thanks, I'll have a look and report back [...] I don't mind paying for it, as long as it's value for money (i.e. doesn't consume 15-20MB just to display a few temps in the notification area :-). I've now looked at both SensorsView and HMonitor , and ended up going for HMonitor for the dual reasons ...

Take a look at SensorsView Pro . It is updated frequently.....plus it's the nicest looking prog out there. Too bad it actually costs money. Thanks, I'll have a look and report back. After considerable digging I also found HMonitor , which seems similar in features (and cost) to SVP. I don't m...

If Speedfan is giving you incorrect temperatures, any other app will do as well I'm currently running it (for testing) on an older machine on which MBM works fine (it displays fan speeds, voltages, temperatures, etc). Speedfan can't see any temp sensors except the HDD one, sees the fan speed sensor...

Looking for a HW monitoring app (not MBM, Speedfan, Everest)

Can anyone suggest any system temp/voltage/whatever monitoring apps other than MBM, Speedfan, or Everest? MBM has always been my favourite but it's showing its age :-(, it doesn't work with newer hardware. Speedfan is too erratic (requires a lot of fiddling, shows weird temps and voltages, and doesn...

Fixing a TT SL1 slot cooler

This is a follow-on from an earlier thread , I thought I'd give this one its own thread to extract it from the slot cooler discussion. The TMG SL1 is the usual TT didn't-quite-hit-the-mark design, but luckily all but one of the problems can be bypassed without too much effort. The first thing is the...

Besides, if I claimed that the TMG SL1 is inaudible, how reliable would that statement be? Have you tried using the front intake fan in the P180 and removing all the PCI slot covers at the rear? Haven't tried it but I'd considered it. Effect of PCI slot coolers on passively-cooled graphics card

I originally asked this at the bottom of a somewhat unrelated thread, I figured I'd try again with a more obvious subject line: There are now several vendors shipping passively-cooled cards using the HD2400/2600 and nVidia 8400/8600. The problem with this is that even the lowest-power 2400/2600s gen...

Also on the fan note, is the fan in the lower chamber "really" necessary or would the fan in the PSU suffice for providing enough airflow over the hard drives? Has anyone had any experience with Antec's B-stock cases? I'm thinking of getting a P180, the description says this "may have minor blemishes though often looks new", but that's not very informative. Another possible area is HSF retention clip is losing its pressure. 40+ celcius different between idle and load in a very short time, in my opinion, indicates poor contact between HSF and heatspreader. CPU overheating with TR2TT M10 heatsink

Like (I guess) most people, I end up doing tech support for a random set of friends and neighbours. One of them was complaining of problems with her computer locking up under load.
