The main concern is the noise... I've read reviews saying that it is VERY quiet but I don't really t...

The seek/read-write noise is terrible, and I've played around with the AAM settings through both the Hitachi tools and Samsungs disk utilities but neither seem to make much, if any, difference at all. So I've decided to go back to my Maxtor DM10 which has far, far quiter seeks and is only marginall...

I have not tried it outside of the case, but I will.
It's still gonna be very noisy I'm sure...

I'm sure I applied the AAM settings.

I'll wait a few days to see if noise decreases, otherwise I'll return it or keep it for storing data outside of the PC.

I just bought one.
Seeks are very loud, a lot more than all my other drives with AAM (Maxtor, Samsung, IBM).
I can't keep it in my P180, it's just far too noisy
Enablind AAM did not change anything about that...

AAM does have an effect. The reduction in power consumption and the test on the vibration box confirmed that. However, it's effect on the airborne acoustics is almost nothing; the reduction is almost entirely in vibration and whatever noise it causes. Also, keep in mind that it's seeks without AAM ...

I have 3 SP1614N.

The 3 I had came with AAM not activated.
Maybe it depends on the country where you buy them...

I have 3 of them by the way, none of them has the AAM activated, 2 of them vibrate a lot and the last a bit less.

JVM I did (I think I said it in another thread already) and now it does not vibrate that much and is a bit more quiet.

It was not on mine... maybe that's why it was vibrating so much...
If you have some spare time, could you deactivate it and see wether it vibrates or not ?
