SilverStone LC19 + GA-MA78GM-S2H + X2 4850e - Some Questions
Hi, I'm building a PC for my living room, basically a htpc without a tv tuner. I'm planning to buy a SilverStone LC19 + GA-MA78GM-S2H + X2 4850e but would appreciate some expert opinion! (I already have an old HD, DVD, memory to use) 1. Is there anything recently released that's obviously better for...

Which SFF for 1080 playback on my LCD TV?
Hi, Thanks for any help on this - the last PC I built was a shuttle zen over 3 years ago (which I've been very happy with) and I haven't looked at anything pc related since so am completely out of the loop! Basically I'd like something like the shuttle zen (i.e. a quiet SFF PC) for my living room, b...

Cheers for the advice, though I ended up installing it internally in the end, and that seems easily quiet enough at the moment. I may go external if I get a quieter hard drive. Bending back the tabs was surprisingly easy, and I secured the new fan with sticky tape in about 2 minutes. I've no idea wh...

Shuttle Zen Fan Replacement
Hi all, I need to replace the fan in my Shuttle Zen, as it keeps stopping and I can only keep it spinning for more than 10 minutes by using 'speedfan' From reading posts in this forum it looks like the nexus 80mm is the replacement of choice. However, I'm not sure I'm up to the mods required to make...

I think you may as well use elastic as it's virtually free, and will definitely be better. However, I think inelastic string will work better than a few people think, as it won't transmit any vibration in the sideways planes, so even if it transmits all vibrations undamped to the case in the up-down...

yeah, that would be fantastic - having had a quick google there's something called 8rdavcore (www.hasw.net) which dynamically adjusts vcore and clock speed for some AMD boards, but I can't find much else I've emailed Alfredo and said I'll donate 50 bucks if he can get something working for both vcor...

Hi hyslopc - i've just re-read this thread and noticed that speedfan might be able to control the fsb on the zen. I haven't got hold of that beta yet so i haven't installed it, so i'm not sure what the clock tab does - can speedfan adjust the fsb automatically, based on temps or cpu load? can it adj...

I don't really know a lot about this, but I'm pretty sure the vcore and chipset voltages are different, and you might only be able to undervolt the vcore with the Zen, which would explain your stable NB temps Maybe the NB is also taking a bit of a cooking from your hard drive? Try running it with th...

No chance to test it until June I'm afraid - i'm stuck in some random apartment in NY on a business trip for the next week, and then going straight to India on holiday for a month. I only have a laptop at the moment anyway, so have no way to power the drive until I get the shuttle zen box I'm planni...

Some kind of comparison of dvd / cd drives would be really useful There's quiet a few posts where people say whether they think their dvd or cd drive is quiet enough or not, but nothing properly comparative If getting samples for comparison is difficult, a list of which drives can have their max spe...

Does memory effect noise? What RAM for a Shuttle Zen?
Hi everyone, I've had a good search through this site, and can't find anything about choosing memory and whether it effects how noisy your pc is - I'm assuming that's because RAM obviously makes no noise itself, but also produces very little heat, or there's no difference in the amount of heat produ...
