After so many years of absence, hello there again :) I just popped back in to say a big "thank you" to Mike. Having managed to fight my way to the last Antec 3700 in the country so many years ago, i've been happily & quietly computing away....till i had to replace with a more powerful system. Finall...

I'm very happy with my Nidec 250 (2504C). granted, it went in as the third drive in the system so my baseline is a bit higher than I'd like, but it's definitely MUCH quieter than the two Seagate 120s surrounding it and much cooler too. I couldn't compare it to my 160 (too much trouble) but subjectiv...

I've managed to assemble a small collection of fans from various manufacturers - including Noiseblocker. I have the 80mm S2 and the 120mm SX2 (the supposedly überquiet one) My take on noiseblocker is that yes the fans themselves are of good quality and they blow a lot of air for the sound they produ...

I'm The Green Teabagger , of The Rotating Surfboard of Death. (yet another lame pop-culture reference derived name that 99.44% of people haven't gotten. ) A little STFW and LIUOW led me to a show called MXC. THAT one led me to Takeshi's Castle and now I'm wondering if you were the that guy in...

It's actually Crucio who's playing the bad guy this round. Klingon has been especially civil this round, never touching habs unless his were attacked first. Crucio has LOTS of ships and has sold a LOT of population to keep it going. Last I heard he had an income of above 1 million credits. So he's n...

Anyone else in the top 10 in case I destroy you? I'm up there but there are a lot of people gaining on me fast so I should be out some time later. I've just noticed our dear moderator hit badly. Dear Nihilo, tell me you never touched Klingon or Crucio please. Oh and Starfish - any possibility of di...

WARNING WARNING!! Palominos are notoriously hot & notoriously bad undervolters. You'd be lucky getting more than 0.5V decrease at all. AFAIK, it's a CPU chip problem, not a problem of the motherboard. Barton is a totally different case though. As for undervolting, full CPU speed & 100% load, check o...

I'm also running a Whisperrock IV with a different fan (a Yate Loon) on a Palomino (70W core). 70W is a lot for such a cheap cooler to handle at low rpms so the Yate Loon is doing 2000 rpms but cools it nicely at that. Can't expect more from such a cheap cooler. It's been running stable ina 30C room...

Reading the article, the arrested guy doesn't look as innocent as implied in OP's post. The real issue is once you start talking cross-border legal issues, things get muddied by your point of view. Instead of US-Canada, consider Russia-Chechenia or Greece-Machedonia, etc. Instead of seeds, consider ...

I've turned down alliances from a couple of SPCRer. That's because last round I found myself allied to nearly half the galaxy (despite my seemingly warlike nature) I really don't want to attack fellow SPCR members nor do I want to extend my alliances all over the place so if you could just point you...

I'm for it. I'm looking forward to doing some real damage next round. A forum would be great. I'll be sitting peaceful for most of the round. I did a strange version install with my sonata. I reversed the rear 120mm into an intake. I also placed a VERY slow turning (@ 3V) 120mm fan horizontally right at the back of the PSU (level with the support bars). Temps improved incredibly. I know this would kind of defeat the purpose of a fanless P...

I'm sorry to dissapoint anyone but that looks like a globe clone rather than a globe proper. Globe logo is always very prominent, with a globe formed of longitude & lattitude lines with no Saturn-like halo. The fan model number should have a "12" before the last L to show it's a 12V fan, and 120mm g...

I use my 3000+ (2.0 GHz) Newcastle at 2.4 GHz with Vcore at 1.37V (default is 1.5V). So that's a 20% overclock WITH undervolting. Cooling is XP90 with Nexus 92mm fan, fan voltage is around 9V i guess (1100 rpm instead of the full 1500 rpm). Running folding@home, CPU is 55C at 25C room ambient. Highe...

It never occured to me and sounds like a really good idea. I have a64 3000, stock speeds (I prefer quiet over 5% more speed), so will this setup provide enough cooling? Jan, I just got that notebook. The fan IS obtrusive and pretty loud when it's on. And it's more like an on/off, no rpm regulation. It seems it's quite powerful though because it blows for a few seconds then stops. The start/stop is very annoying to one who's accustomed to quiet computers but unless ...
