I bought a Black Edition 5000+ x2 and had the same crashing with it and RMClock. I ended up selling the 5000+ since I didn't have time to futz with it. It was really unfortunate, since I wanted the ability to go up to 3 GHz when I needed it (encoding), but clock at 2 GHz normally, and 1 GHz at idle ...

As with my previous Brisbane, I am still unable to run RMClock's Performance on Demand profile, even if I adjust voltages above what I've found to be stable on Orthos for 12 hours. I agree on the processor - try to get an EE version of the X2, and you'll be happy. The heat on the quads is really going to cook in that 2480 case - on my 2400, I went from an undervolted EE X2 to a slightly undervolted X2 Black 5000+, and the heat rise was noticable enough to cause reboots - not e...

Athlon x2 3800+ EE (65w)

I'm upgrading my HTPC. It's a Windsor AM2 processor. In my NSK2400, it runs Vista MCE stable at 1 GHz, 0.875v 2 GHz, 1.15v It actually runs stable at .8v->.825v and .975v->1.0v, but I was being conservative, wanting a high WAF, and rock solid stability. I've never overclocked it, so I don't know how...

Put an Accelero on my 3850

I'm very VERY happy right now. I got my Accelero S1 last night from SVC, and dropped about 25oF in idle (110 -> 86!), and 60oF on load! (165 -> 106). Wow... NCIXUS.com also had them last week, but now are OOS, too. They have pretty steep shipping, so I didn't order from them.

Beats me... I've never had a card > 256 MB. For an HTPC, I'm sure 64 MB is overkill.

Undevolt ATI 38xx videocards!

Not sure if anyone caught this yet, but there's a way to underclock, and underVOLT the 38xx series of video cards directly in the BIOS. If you sent your region to German (for the "." and "," swap) it will worok for the voltages (otherwise an extra "bit" gets written to the BIOS file and corrupts it)...

Just get a slow 120mm fan and place it strategically inside the case - it shouldn't add much if anything to the noise, and gets that inside air moving around. This should even out the heat throughout the case, and decrease "hotspots" like on the NB.
