Speaking of folding farms, what hardware would be the way to go for building a farm these days. I mean the market has moved on in the past year, but has the price/performance leader shifted from the old socket A platform, and if so then where? Here's something I just priced out at Newegg : MicroATX...

Good question! Now, can I actually think of all of them.. Athlon 64 3000+, Windows XP (this is the main PC at home, so it gets pulled away for games from time to time) P3/700, Gentoo (coppermine? can't remember. To be replaced with an XP2100, as soon as I can get it quiet.) Dell GX300: dual P3/800 w...

and there it is!
http://apple.com/macmini/ I'm going to see it later today, without a doubt. It'll probably be tough to get a bead on noise levels from the show floor, but I should be able to feel heat off the back pretty easily, judging from the vents shown in the pictures. As far as video editing performance goes...

Yep, here too - I think all of my boxes got them on the same day, because I had 36 hours of panic (0 WUs reported) and then a massive blast of 3000 points as 5 of them reported at the same time. Christmas day, no less! And I didn't even ask Santa for a boatload of points :P btw! I'm dark red! I wond...

I highly recommend Gentoo linux. Especially because in the middle of an install, booted off the CD, even before you have the kernel built or any programs installed, you can log into the machine and start it folding overnight! (As i'm doing now, from my girlfriend's house, while it sits at my place,...

Very interesting! I've been pondering a new linux machine myself. That's probably a good deal for the money. I wonder how quiet it is? (mainly because I'm running out of space in my apartment) By the way, I don't know exactly how deep you want to dive into linux, but if you want to have a better und...

OK, here's an interesting race for you -- me versus the clock. The goal is to pass 100K before 2005. Right now it's looking pretty tight! http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=98736 I don't think I can scare up any more machines for the cause between now and then.. so it could...

dual 940s to fill the NEED
I'll be doing better as the weather cools off, and as I finish building my AMD dually. What are you putting into it? I've been thinking for a while now of bumping up my main linux box to dual opterons (it's a single P3/700 right now), and yesterday found the Iwill DK8N motherboard, which seems to b...
