Re: SilverStone Argon AR01 & AR03 CPU Coolers
Does anyone know if the AR01 (or indeed any heatsink) can it be mounted in either orientation? By that I mean so that in a tower case the fins spread out horizontally? I see from the image in the review that the heatsink is normally mounted parallel to the rear of the motherboard. I want to mount it...

I'd happily buy one if I can get it in the UK.

Ideal mobo for AMD Athlon II X4 620
Been gone a while but after my current PC decided to die I'm back in research mode for a replacement. Fortunately I'd already got the Athlon II X4 620 on my radar after reading a few very positive reviews, including the possibility of unlocking the L3 cache effectively making it a Phenom. I use my P...

Opinions on ECS AMD690GM-M2
Considering an upgrade and looking at using a X2 BE-2300 and an ECS AMD690GM-M2 motherboard, simply because it's really cheap at eBuyer . There doesn't seem to be much discussion of this board on here so I was wondering if anyone had used it and had opinions of it? Reviews seem good and I'd probably...

Hehe, unfortunately, no. Less cache means more memory activity, which actually means higher consumption :) (but not enough to really care about in desktop or even mobile systems). Wouldn't that depend on the algorithms being run and how much cache they use? I just seem to recall reading on here som...

Personally I'd go for a X2 3800+ as it's an absolute steal after the recent price reduction. I'm planning on building a system with the same motherboard as you but onboard graphics would be fine for me so I'll be spending the money on better RAM.

Intel ships 31W Core Duo-based Xeon LV (Sossaman)
Intel begins shipping Sossaman today and the pricing doesn't look too bad. Not really for us consumers but wonderd what people's thoughts are on Intel's new chip or is this old news?

Pin mod to undervolt Pentium D 820 in Dell Dimension 5150C
I picked up a Dell Dimension 5150C for 370 for a friend yesterday. 2GB of DDR533, 160GB Samsung Spinpoint, Pentium D 2.8GHz dual core all in a tiny BTX case. Absolute bargain for him, even though there's not enough room for tinkering for me. Anyway, the processor is kicking out so much heat that ...

Yet again Intel confusing names take another victim. Thought I'd step in just to say Mobile Pentium 4 M's do work in normal socket 478 motherboards (and very well I might add), Pentium M's do not. I actually have one of these socket 478 mobile P3's around here somewhere (might have been the person w...

Thanks for the returns tip. Might give it a try. Good to see my name is still recognised! I shut down the forum after the last spam attack as I just don't have time to maintain the site (running my own web design business now). Today I'm hoping to get round to removing that embarrassment of a home p...

Packard Bell Store & Save
PC World have a rather good deal (yes, wouldn't of expected it myself) on this Packard Bell Store & Save . Here's the spec . Anyone know what it's like for quiet running and general performance? What manufacture do they use for the hard drive? Could do with something to dump all my data on and 400GB...

Here's my thoughts. I have a Terratec Aureon 7.1 Space and have that wired straight in to my Samson Servo 170 amp (complete overkill and noisier than my PC but sounds solid) which drives a pair of Tannoy Reveal near field monitors. So it's a decent rig which I bought when I was doing Music Tech at c...

There are absolutely no guarantees either way I'm afraid but if you break the pin, the worst that could happen (I guess) is that the processor still runs at 100x12 because the motherboard/BIOS doesn't support a 133MHz bus speed. I have to say it's very likely that it won't work because laptops are n...
