I think its due to the increase in points on the p638 thinker and the general abundence of high point Tinkers. My weekly pattern is almost exactly the same as yours, averaged about 770 ppw before and this week I got just over 1200 points. Some of that was due to my seccondary folder (a celeron 900 l...

Just a heads up guys but there is now another team flying up the ranks. AMD Development Center , They seem to be using just a few large clusters of machines and the output is quite erratic, as I suppose the achines are used every now and then. Anyway the top producer, SmithCluster, is heading toward...

Heh, it could be worse, they could be the old p638s which were 128pts and took just as long as the 200+ tinkers. The 200+ point tinkers should be fairly well adjusted for P4 users and line up nicely with the gromacs units. For AMD users like me the 200+ tinkers are wonderful, I wish thwy were all I ...

Well if everything else is in spec then as you suggested it is most likely your CPU hitting its limit, or fluctuations in the voltage caused by a weak PSU. The thing is heat is not the only limiting factor to overclocking. In extreme OCing the CPU is often cooled to below 0*C but you cannot just kee...

The only thing is I don't want to compromise noise for power in the video card because I'll very rarely be doing anything with intense 3D graphics. Would there be a difference in noise between the 9800 Pro and HIS's Excalibur X800 XT IceQ II? And for that matter, in the above configuration, would I...

It looks like something in your system just can't handle it. It could be anything, CPU, chipset, ram, video card PSU etc. With overclocking your speed limit is not only due to the heat produced but also other limits in the chip, and just because it is at a good temp does not mean it will be stable. ...

Nice hardware! The only additional question/suggestion I have is why "only" a 9800 pro. If yoou're spending that ammount of money why not go with 2gb ram and gat a X800XT or 6800 ultra? I mean you might as well go the whole hog if you plan to do any gaming or just want bragging rights. I believe HIS...

Yep, setting your client preference to GAH will definatly give you work units without deadlines. At the moment it looks as if the only units without deadlines are those 44 point gromacs. Anyway, if your machine is sometimes not making the deadlines you should definatly set the preference to GAH sinc...

As unbalanced as these work units are, remember that it has always been this way. All tinkers were worth 71 points before and gave about half the ppd of the average gromac. Now, in my experience at least, the bad tinkers give about 75-80% of the ppd of the average gromac and the good tinkers give so...

Hmmm, from my experience with setting GAH and batch mode the client still tried to return each unit as it was finished. If only you could queue up more than 10 work units, cause with these settings you only get timeless ones, so even if you were away for a long time you'd still be credited for them ...

Now Macroumours are picking up the pace
It seems that another team on our overtake list, macroumours, has decided to up the ante over the last few days. They've outproduced us so far this week and don't look to be slowing up at all. Anyway, at one point it loked as if we'd have no trouble moving up into the top 20, even the top 15 but now...

Re: Athlon64: Facts, myths, and experiences...
I often see people quoting the listed 89W max power output, and claiming that the A64 will be no cooler than the P4. I believe that this is the figure set by AMD for the max allowable power dissipation on the S754 platform. That is, it bears no relation to the actual power output of any processors ...

The vid card will not be a problem at all. The X800 pro actually draws a little less power than the 9800XT and the X800XT only draws a small amount more than the 9800XT. I just erad your WC guide and it's a good summary of what you need to know to build a good WC setup. The only thing I can think of to alleviate constriction due to joints is to have the tubing fluted at the ends and use fittings with an ID equal to the ID of the tubing. This would be quite impractic...
