very interesting. thanks for the link. fanless, low power, SFF...it's like they're reading my mind! CPU probably VIA or AMD, the Intel ULV chips probably too expensive at this price point. i would think of celeron M? I can't see them using that 9w sempron- 1ghz would scare too many people off with ...

time to move EPCR item from the top of SPCR mainpage?
i'm all for supporting/promoting eco PC review, but the front page is meant primarily for showcasing the recent SPCR articles right? [and the EPC message has been up for months.] i used to notice them when coming to the forums via the mainpage, but don't even see them without making a specific effor...

Re: Inexpensive, small, silent server/workstation
right.. -what do you consider 'small enough to sit on ur desk'? (mini tower? [ie as Antec NSK3300], smaller MATX? [see the link in my sig] or shuttle style? ['breadbin' style]) -what do u consider inexpensive? -how much power do u want for this thing? (u use the phrase 'workstation which implies pre...

what 2nd hand ULV with USB2 T&L laptops are there?
I am looking for a cheap, 2nd hand, thin and light laptop with an (Ultra) Low Voltage CPU, and USB 2. less than 13" screen, atleast 1024x768, no optical drive, a mini-pci slot atleast for wifi but i think pretty much everything has this. looking to spend as little as possible. i have been looking a...

it is such a big deal because a) broadcast TV is in 16:9 (or 4:3) b) i don't want black bars at the edges of my screen forever. stuff just looks better when it fills the whole screen. dvds etc are also setup to display perfectly on 16:9 screens. why you never get a display company which dares to bre...

Re: About Socket 370 (P3)
Looks like I'll be running a 1.13GHz Tualatin at 595MHz. I would expect 15W at stock vCore. 15W. DeltaTMax=35oC. I think fanless just might fly. Any thoughts? There is a 600mhz (or 533, 566mhz) 1.5v celeron which would certainly run fanless.. rated 11-12W, can be had for a couple of $ on ebay. for ...

yea but they cost more and have much weaker 12v output. I'm sure the $8 premium is easily made up by being able to go from beefy 12V adapters to more easily found 18-21V notebook adapters. Also, if you're loading more then 72W off of the 12V line, you probably shouldn't be considering a pico-PSU in...

yes but realise that its only now, and only the fastest flash, that is starting to be limited by (ie exceed the sustainable speeds of) the USB interface. basically u just need a fanless laptop or tablet PC. There are quite a few around over the ages and not that hard to come by on ebay, even if theres not a big list of what each model # is. u can replace any 2.5" hdd with a CF card, by means of a simple adaptor. ebay again. You don't have to use linu...

when the fan is on quiet, as it is now.. yes i can hear it, but i can also hear the buzz of my tv, and traffic outside. its not too bad -- a *HUGE* lot better than the xbox 360. quieter than the ps2 i'd say, which is quite impressive in a box that size that uses 200W. The 256mb ram isn't too devasta...

well, if u'd had a bit of a read, u'd find the ninja is considered the best for quiet cooling around here (and, 'we' should know), and the Noctua NF-S12-800 is the fan of the moment. although others are also plenty good enough. however, u'd be suprised how much simply reducing the voltage of the fan...
