Well, I can't claim to know much - but those temperatures do seem absurdly low. The second set of numbers sounds much closer to reality. I am running an athlon 3400, and have found it not to difficult to cool with an undervolted zalman 7000, with an idle in the mid/high 30's and a full load in the m...

Yah, I'm running a Nexus 80mm as my rear exhaust, even at 12v - you'd be have to have a near silent system to make it a real factor. It's a quiet fan.

I am running off of the Nexus 3500, and besides from saying that this unit is gorgeuos - it seems very quiet. The Zalman 7000, even at the lowest RPM's is more audible than its 120mm fan. The bottom drawing positioning seems to also work well. Sticking my head up to it, it is fairly audible, but it ...

I'm running an MSI K8t neo-fis2r. I know pretty different, but my CnQ works fine, multiplier drops to four.

The MSI K8t-NEO FISR2 supports cool and quiet, in fact, while writing this my clock speed is somewhere under a thousand (and running at 31c). I do not know if it supports undervolting, and I am not very clear on what that is. Doesn't undervolting diminish performance along with lowering heat output?...

I just wanted to say that I too have completed this mod. Bsaically did exactly as Joseph did, without the cool LED's (how do you do those btw?). Cut a metal funnel which just reaches the edge of the heatsink, and used the same mesh pencil cup. I have not broken 40c even after a few hours of prime95 ...

I just replaced it with a SATA barracuda, can't hear it during normal operation but noticeable ticking when loading, especially xp. Feels nice and snappy though.

I apologize if this is common knowledge, but I am new at the "hack away at your case" game. What tools do you use to cut through aluminum.steel and clip away at the everything?

I have that very pencil cup (though i use it for pencils) and it seems pretty solidly constructed.

Yah, those are the temps given back by MSI CoreCenter as the CPU temp. Oddly enough, except under full load, the system temp is only 2 to 4 degrees below the cpu temp. Smartfan for whatever reason consistenly lists temperatures 3 c below MSI's, and I find mbm5 completely incomprehensible. Glad to he...

Athlon 64 3400 and MSI k8t NEO-FISR2

I am new at the whole silent computing/cooling, and I think i am doing decently with a zalman CNPS7000A-Cu, a nexus 3500 power supply, and a papst rear exhaust fan. The system is very quiet, but I am wondering if my temperatures are okay. Average is around, 37 c or so, while running over 24 hours of...
