quiet, hot-swappable mini-ITX case?
I'm looking to build myself a mini-ITX file server, running FreeNAS or maybe OpenMediaVault . I'd like a smart little case that is quiet and has space for 5 or more hot-swappable drives. So far these look interesting: Lian Li PC-Q25 (brief review by a forum user here ): slick looking case, but no es...

Scythe fan mounting - not decoupled?
I've noticed none of Scythe's coolers seem to decouple the fan from the heatsink in any way - whereas all other manufactuers use various rubber connectors or anti-vibration strips, Scythe's fans are affixed directly to the metal. Or that's what it looks like, from what I can tell. Am I correct? If y...

Non-huge cooler recommendations?
Hi, I'm about to build a socket 1156 system with a relatively low-power Core i5 Clarkdale CPU - TDP 73 W, in a standard ATX case. I wish I could re-use my current XP-90 but that won't work due to the change in socket... So, I'm looking for a decent, and decently sized, cooler. But these days they al...

Sorry Mike, but is this a review or are you simply reproducing the company's literature on the A2s? It would be a real shame if the level of SPCR's critical and independent reviews began to slip. This "review" would certainly appear to be a start in that direction. Sorry I can't find anything nicer ...

Interesting, thanks. Seems like all 8800GTs without the stock cooler don't allow fan speeds to be regulated. Ugh. Here's another example: Leadtek WinFast PX8800 GT GTB Got this card last week - has a slightly bigger fan than the stock solution (which is already very quiet). Great, I thought. Alas, t...

Essential to get hot air out of case?
Hi, I used to love Arctic Cooling's Silencer fans, since they actually exhausted the hot air from the graphics card directly out of the case. The trend hasn't really been catching on that much though, even AC don't use the principle any more. Is that because it didn't work as well as it should have?...

Leadtek's 8800GT with Zalman fan
The WinFast PX8800 GT ZL It's obviously a Zalman cooler, but which one? Does anyone have some experience with one of these? The regular 8800GTs are flatter (1 slot vs. 2 slot) so I'm not so sure what would be the advantage to this model, given how quiet the stock 8800GT fans are supposed to be anywa...

AMD Opteron 185 - Denmark (939) stock - 1.35V Minimum: 0.8 Ghz @ 0.800 Volt Stock: 2.6 Ghz @ 1.200 Volt Where did these figures come from? Couldn't find them anywhere in this thread. For what it's worth, I can run Orthos for over an hour at 1.0GHz/0.8V and 2.6GHz/1.125V. Using a XP-90 with Noiseblo...

I'm glad they have finally started to get rid of these legacy ports! In my years of building and using computers I have never once used a legacy port. The worst thing about them is they take up so much more space. Everything is USB nowadays and the more USB ports the better. Speak for yourself.... ...

Nexus fans - where to get hold of them?
I'm looking to buy a Nexus 92mm fan (to go with my XP-90) as it seems they are the quietest of the lot. Currently using a Noiseblocker which is not bad, but doesn't seem to like my motherboard's PWM control.
Anyway, does anyone know any places in the UK that stock them?
Thanks.

Hi, I'm looking to buy an nForce4 Ultra motherboard - don't need SLI and would rather have more PCI slots. OK, well rather than fiddle around with bungee cords I'd prefer a solution that doesn't involve trashing the drive cage. So my current idea is to use the rubber buffers from a disk silencing kit: http://www.redshift.plus.com/pics/rubberthingie.jpg and since there isn't much space, to just use them b...

Quietest 300-400W PSU for sale in UK?
Hi there, Currently own a Zalman 300W PSU which unfortunately is no longer quiet under high loads, so I am looking for something slightly beefier - and quieter! Ordered a Tagan 380-U01 from Tekheads, it sure was quiet but exhibited an intermittent clicking/chirping sound which I found unbearable (se...

Quietly mounting my drives in a "new" Lian Li cage
Hi, My Lian Li has one of the newer hard drive cages which gives you the option of mounting drives horizontally, by screwing in an extra panel: http://www.onepc.net/images/docs/157/bracket.jpg This extra panel can be moved a bit further out, which gives another cm or two of space. The resulting spac...
