Its model code is HD321KJ where according to Samsung's scheme the meaning of "K" is 5-heads. So is it really a 3-platter drive? Why? Although it is also claimed to use 167GB platters... Interesting. I couldn't find the model numbering scheme samsung uses, but it could well be true. It would mean sa...

I have the T series HD300LJ model and is noisy, imo...Lots of vibrations and loud seeks. Is HD321KJ different? :? You got T133 series hd. The newer T166 series could be quite different in terms of performance or noise. Not to mention your model uses 3 platters, whereas the HD321KJ has only 2 (which...

Very high rpm. But how about the platter size? Well, it's no different from the platter size used in 3.5" 15krpm drives. 3.5" SCSIs use smaller platters that what could be physically fitted into that size of HDD casing. Not true. It's true that 3.5" 15k rpm drives use platters with roughly 2.5" dia...

I'm still battled to to why its says "1.525V" on the Intel box, though? Is that referring to something else and not what the VCore should be set to? It probably means this is the highest voltage the cpu in the box will ask for. Remember, all current intel cpus are "multi-VID" parts, meaning they no...

Is the die size of the PIII near the same of the 90nm A64? If not, I don't think that it is a valid assumption that a Winchester using 20W can be passively cooled. Although I have no experience with this. Die size doesn't make that much of a difference if you're willing to accept high temperatures ...

I rather doubt it's the cpu itself. I suspect parts of the voltage regulation circuitry makes the noise (coils are known to be noisy sometimes).Drax7 wrote:Has anyone else experienced a noisy CPU before? Any suggestions on what to do?

I don't have any other source than a swedish hardware newssite and this time they do not link to their source (which they usually do), however, take a look at the numbers presented here. It is Intels new 600-series Pentium 4 with 2MB L2 cache that is on the table... http://forum.sweclockers.com/sho...

Re: Fast Pentium-M's coming next month
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20197 According the the article, new Pentium-Ms are coming out next month including a 2.13ghz model. According to what I read before, these 533mhz bus chips will push the FPU performance up around 25-30% in the SPEC tests and will push power consumption to 27W. I...

In theory there is nothing stopping you from using Cool 'n' Quiet together with undervolting. It won't work with the standard Cool 'n' Quiet tool however. For Cool 'n' Quiet to work, the bios supplies the OS a table with the valid multiplier / voltage settings, and the OS uses these values to switch...

Tricking the board to lower FSB shouldn't be too difficult in theory, look at the P4 datasheet and watch out for the BSEL pins. As Ralf said, it should work just the same as if you try to increase FSB. You can also lower voltage that way, which was already said to be much more effective, watch out f...

Actually, the new FX-55's specification exceeds 89watts. That's true, but it's a boutique part which only exists because AMD could not get 2.6Ghz 90nm parts out in time (or they didn't even try, I don't think 1MB 90nm parts exist yet). It does not invalidate that the 89W figure was higher than what...

It appears that AthlonXPs will idle lower than A64s. Search for pod03 as the author and you will find the reasosns. Basically XPs can go down to 300MHz (5x60) at 1.1v (4.7W) whereas it appears that A64s dont go as low MHz with current BIOSs. True, XP will go to a lower freqency more easily than A64...

There still aren't that many numbers out there regarding power consumption of these chips, but the numbers so far are truly impressive. 1.1V is some sort of a "natural limit", since the voltages defined by the VID signals range from 1.1V to 1.85V for Athlon XP cpus (they go down to less iirc on mobile cpus, too lazy to check). So typical voltage regulators on boards will only be able to provide voltages from 1.1V to 1.85V for simple...
