I personally recommend that you get the Zalman VF700CU, the Scythe Ninja, and do something with that Northbridge heatsink. I would take it off, and scrub off the pink crap Asus puts on it, and reapply with either the AS Ceramique or the Silver 5. I personally use the silver as I don't have to worry ...

I'm usually not one to even worry about weight issues on my CPU or motherboard. However, having been an owner of ThermalRight's products, mainly the SP-94 and SP-97, I would have to say that an all-copper version of the Ninja would just be way too heavy. That thing would weigh like 5 lbs! I don't kn...

Hmmm.... no I didn't try that. I would be hesitent to do so because the only place I have space for that would be at the rear of the HSF... and that might interfere with the exaughst of the rear fan... But it might be worth looking into... especially since I'm expecting a new X800GTO2 coming soon th...

I know what you mean. It confused me too. All I can think is that by putting on a fan it "overrides" the air from the top intake, mixing the internal case air with the outside cool air. This, I think, causes the heatsink to see a little bit warmer air than without the fan, thereby actually increasin...

Why would you have gone with the Fatal1ty version? It's basically the Copper LED version painted red and marked up in price... Does your case have a window or something that the flashiness would have looked ok? I don't know about the NV's... but I thought they were supposed to be worse than the Zalm...

Let me just say this: In the Antec P180 case, I have a very loaded system. 4 WD250 GB hard drives, a Seagate 120GB hard drive, 1.5 GB DDRII 667, X700Pro with a Zalman VF700-Cu, TV Wonder Pro, Audigy 2, 1 DVD DL Burner, 1 CD/DVD-ROM/CD-RW, an Asus P5AD2-E Premium, and a regular 1MB L2 Prescott at 3.4...

I loved that link about how black computers are faster. Even if Antec made a black one (it'll be the same as the options on the Ipod nano), someone will be convinced a red computer would be faster. I mean, why else are most Ferrari's in movies and showroom floors painted red? :P The answer, I belie...

I would try first making sure your thermal interface material is properly applied. Then make sure that your heatsink is properly installed making full contact with the chip. Other then that, I would maybe try posting a new thread so that others can help you directly with your problem. For Josh, I wo...

Nah, this thread should be ok as long as you are getting replies... An idea I've been thinking about toying with, but haven't yet... is pantyhose. I've read that these are great, and cheap, airfilters that can be either cleaned, or just thrown away when they get full of dust. Another idea, although ...

Now we should take a look at some other components you are thinking about getting... ;) Did you already buy that PSU? If not, I HIGHLY recommend the 500W Seasonic S12. Not only is it quiet, but its highly stable, and very, very good at efficiency. It will put out a lot less heat than most PSU's. Wit...

If you look anywhere on this site, you will see that the bigger the fan, the quieter it runs for the same amount of air being moved. So, you can have an 80mm fan push 30 CFM of air at 30-45db... whereas a 120 can move 45 CFM around 20-30 db. I would ALWAYS recommend a heatsink and case that takes 12...

Forgot to add one more thing: I LOVE my Zalman VF700CU for my graphics card. It is heavy, but again, it does not put any flex into my X700PRO that I have it on. On the 5V setting the thing keeps me idle around 45-50 and maxes at 72. Well within the limits of the chip. On high, the card barely breaks...

If you want the best quiet for your money, take the Ninja. You don't have a northbridge so you shouldn't have to worry about those temps. The XP120 has denser fins, closer to the motherboard, so there is more backpressure for the fan, which does increase the temperature and noise. The Ninja you can ...

Honestly I don't understand why people think that's such a bad thing. As long as you aren't subjecting your PC to huge G-Forces, like dropping it from a foot or two, slamming it around the bed of a pickup truck, or flat out letting it bounce around as you drive 30 mph over a speed bump, you should b...

The Scythe Ninja should be compatible with that chip. The major difference is that they are talking about a fanless mode, whereby only convection is used. For the higher-end chips that put out more heat, you need to have some airflow going across the heatsink, whether its from case fans or a fan dir...

Honestly, I'm not sure why no one mentioned the Scythe Ninja. I was a hardcore Thermalright fan (and I still am, they have really good products and performance) but on the advice of the SPCR reviews and threads, I ordered a Scythe Ninja with my P180 case back in July. I have been more than impressed...

Oliver, If you have any other fan connectors on your motherboard, you should try those too. Even, just for the sake of it, try putting it on your CPU fan header. The connector DOES go onto the fan headers, but some motherboards don't register a fan speed that low. My motherboard, for instance, gives...

I've used thermal paste TONS of times before, so I'm confident I put the right amount on... I'm using AS5 so I use even a smaller amount. Temps before were idle at 60C loading at 70-90C (depending on game). After VF700CU my idle is around 45C and my load is 60C. It only moves when I move the HSF. My...

See that's the weird thing... the screws and bolts are tight, and the back mounting plate is tight too... its not the screws that move, its the heat sink. VF700CU Installation Question
Hello, I have installed a VF700CU from Zalman and I have noticed that the heatsink tends to "move" a little from side to side and rotates back and forth. Is this normal, or do I need to return it for a new one? I have this installed on an X700 PRO and I did install as per the instructions (in other ...

I definately would check the PSU OUTSIDE of the case. Get a PSU tester or if you are good with electronics short the pins to turn on the PSU. (Check on the web, I'm not sure how to do it.) Then, if the fan is still spinning that fast, RMA the beast. I had a Seasonic sent to me and I first fired that...

Yes, RAID0 does statistically double your chance of hard drive failure. But you have to look at the probablilities for failure and really determine if "doubling your chances" really means anything!!! Its like saying you have 1 chance in a million to win the lottery. Then you buy 2 tickets (lets assu...

Man, just back up. You have basically the same risk as with a main hard drive. You can still lose your data. It just depends on which drive he loses. Either way, he will lose data when a drive fails. That's why we have backups. So that we CAN protect our data. And even then, with a backup, no data i...

Oh, and by the way you are talking here in terms of being only seconds faster, yet your main reason for not wanting to RAID drives is because the seek time goes down by a tenth of a MILLIsecond. Milliseconds mean NOTHING in terms of human speed sensitivity. And your speed gain over the search loss f...
