Well, they also have Seagate 160gb pata for $99 and 49.99 a/r. 5yr warranty and quieter than the WD 120's. It'll be a few days for this sale if you wanna hold off and save up the extra cash.

Since it's primary purpose is for insulation, wouldn't that keep more heat in? Especially since most HD heat is from the sides. I'd assume you'd have a fan blowing over the HD.

Perhaps a reviewer here could request some samples.

I'm in the same boat as you... SCSI drives for OS and critical items and IDE for mass storage. don't believe the SATA hype. Almost all drives in the current market are bridged IDE drives. Seagate is the only one ATM with a non-bridged SATA solution. Wait till SATA-2 spec drives are in the market. if...

Probably doesn't help much but...

If you have a SCSI system, you can use Adaptec's EZ-SCSI utility to power drives on and off while OS is running. You can even specify times for drives to power up/down.
