Power output of various power supplies

When buying lower-wattage power supplies, I'm always concerned as to whether the power output will be sufficient. Is there a list somewhere of people's working configurations with various power supplies? That would be extremely helpful to people who have not yet tried out the power supplies firsthan...

Actually though, what about the Lite-On model LTD-166? They say that they have a "smart-x" technology; does anybody know what that's supposed to mean? (I'm trying to choose a DVD drive to buy too)

Ramdisks

Hi, is there a transparent way to mount ramdisks in Windows? I use them to spin down my HD in Linux (my webserver is entirely cached on one, for example) but unfortunately I can't take advantage of similar things in Windows. Specifically, sometimes I put a couple of hours of music onto a ramdisk and...

Yeah, I'm the system administrator for a dormitory computer lab, and the 4550's just came in yesterday. They're very quiet; although they are not as quiet as a specially-built system, among the standard ambience (air circulation) it'll be inaudible from about 1m.

Mini-ITX external power supplies

Hi, I'm looking at the 55w mini-itx external power supply here: http://www.mini-itx.com/store/default.asp?c=9#p67 Does anyone know of a place in the USA where I can buy this? And I've heard that 55w isn't enough to power a computer with a standard-size CDROM (it needs a laptop one); does anybody kno...

Article on silencing a 1.2GHz Athlon

Hi, I finally decided to write up an article detailing the conclusions from my experiences with silencing my Athlon. I'd be interested in whether any of you might have any suggestions/comments, and whether SPCR would be interested in linking to the page. It is located at http://meditation.caltech.ed...

300W and P4

Hi, I currently own an Athlon T-Bird underclocked to 733MHz, and it runs fine on a 300w Zalman PSU. My friend is looking to build a P4 1.80A, and he would like to know whether the 300w of a Zalman PSU would be sufficient. The rest of the system would only contain a 7200rpm hard drive, a cd-rw, and a...

Hi, I am looking for a quiet case fan, and I happened upon the Panaflo FBL 80mm fans at <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://www.siliconacoustics.com" TARGET="_blank">SiliconAcoustics</A><!-- BBCode End -->. They say that the FBL series is just as quiet as the Panaflo FBA series, but can move up to ...

Wow, thanks! Now when you say that the noise level is about the same as the FBA, what does that mean? In particular, how does the noise level of the FBA compare to the noise level of the Zalman PSU at 25C ambient temperature? <br> <br>Also, how do the FBL/FBA perform when put behind a fan grill? Doe...

Hi, thanks for all of the info. By the way, do you know anywhere else that sells the Panaflo FBL fans? I can't seem to find anywhere other than SiliconAcoustics (and the $17 price tag is quite high).
