I had 3D freeze a few times during the past year. Every time I use drivers cleaner program which seem to solve the problem.

Got to stop my bad habit of unnecessarily updating all the drivers/softwares, my Windows registry is full of junk.

Apart from the article and thread that Tibors suggested, there's not many discussion about Matrix Orbital products here IIRC.

You may want to go search/read at bit-tech and its forum. There're many reviews/discussions on MO products there. MO also has active forum as well.

If your case airflow is good, you can use passive VGA HS such as Zalman ZM80D or Tt Fanless HP VGA Cooler . I'm using both and happy with their performances, though I'm tilted towards Zalman as their design allow adding a fan whenever needed. You can also, at the same time, use program like ATITool ...

jOrd , I think throttle function will kick in only in certain circumstances e.g. when CPU is overheated it will throttle itself down as a safety measure. Or as mentioned in the manual, when CPU is in a power saving mode, though I'm never using it that way, I think you will need to set this up in Po...

Welcome to SPCR!!! SI-120 use wire clip to hold fan. I think you will have problem engaging the wire clip on the Silent Wheel as 'fan frame' is larger (130 mm instead of 120mm). Unless you plan to make new clip. Have no idea on the performance of Silent Wheel, but started voltage at 9V. doesn't loo...

I've been using ZM80D on my R9800 SE@Pro for more than a year without fan mounted directly on it. There's an 120 mm intake fan blow towards ZM80D. The card has been working OK that way. Recently I've changed the fan configuration, taking out 120mm intake fan and adding a 92 mm fan to ZM80D using FB1...

Most of the not so serious quiet-fan-seeker will settle for what is available in places near them (Vantec Stealth, or Tt Silent Cat come to mind  ). Not to mention the headac...

For whatever it worths, Antec P150 seems to provide Hdd suspending option without any instruction or warning for Hdd grounding. I take this as reassurance that grounding is actually not required (at least for modern drive) - otherwise Antec could face with liability for their product. I hope they ha...

I guess it depends on where you want to put a larger fan. Fan adapters can be very handy in many situation, unless you can cut a bigger fan hole on the case, or use this FB123 adapter for internal installation.

I've been using all three methods plus a few.

I'm not a P180 owner (it's not available here :( ,..otherwise.. :D ). Yes, cable clutter going to upper chamber may poten...

As m0002a suggested, you'll need to first identify the offending noise source. Just counting # of fans in your system, total = 7 fans :o . That's a lot of fan in a system with one hdd, even allowing that you oc'ed your CPU. Although all fans run at low speed, it's not going to be quiet - especially ...

The fan is very stable. I think that's mainly due to 2 zipties that I put through the holes on fan bracket, which hold the fan very close to fan hub (center of gravity :?: ) - and I pull the zipties quite tight. If the 2 layers of foam tape make you feel the installation is too shaky, do it with 1 l...

How long have you used your modified fan and what are your current impressions (e. g. any physical degradation of the foam or zip ties due to the high heat environement?) What speeds (rpms) do you typically need for things like drilling holes in fans (to seat then in a Zalman 7000) and cut excess plastic frame off? And what size drill bill is needed for the Zalman 7000 fan swap? I did that using a wire cutter cutting out fan's frame, then put 2 layers of double-side...

57°C idle is high for P4 2.8 even for Prescott. It's either a bad-mounting or a bad case airflow, or both.

I have a P4 2.8C (Northwood) with CNPS 7000 Cu @ 800 rpm - it's idle at 38°C (room temp+12°C).

So a Ninja or SI-120 with 5v Nexus could be plenty good for your dad's machine. :)

There's no need for glue. Just push it to the end and it should stay, unless the one you got is a different size for thicker material.

Case windows actually add weight to normally thin aluminium or steel cases - and reduce vibration.

The reason case windows are frowned upon by many quiet enthusiast is because it is visually loud.
