i have heard similar interference before with on-board audio - my fix was to put a higher quality sound card in there. The prob machine was a shuttle ss51g, which is a VIA chipset with whatever the onboard sound chip is. i put an sb audigy in there and it cleaned it right up. the headphone interfere...

this is interesting... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-125-151&depa=1 Gigabyte 6800GT - not passive, but it looks like it locates the fan on the back side of the card. you might be able to mod it with a bigger, slower fan and some arctic silver 5, not to mention that it ...

unfortunately, with the limited space in that shuttle you are limited to a single-slot video card - not much getting around that. the most powerful single slot video cards i have seen are the sapphire 9600xt and the chaintec 6800. the 6800 is clearly a much more capable card, but more expensive. you...

Scooby, As far as mounting compatibility, its pretty adjustable, so its compatible with any card that has heatsink mounting holes next to the GPU and can physically accomodate it (nothing obstructing it). I bought it mainly because it hangs off the back of the card right in front of my 120mm case fa...

there's a lot you can do to make your shuttle quiet - what components do you currently have installed? what hard drive(s) are you using, what processor, what video card, etc? that particular model has shuttle's older and louder power supply and the stock fan on the ICE cpu cooler is very loud and sp...

i'm pretty sure that zalman isn't gonna fit. i think it needs space on both sides of the card and you have pretty much zero space on the gpu side in the shuttle, and limited space on the back side because you may run into the drive cage. also keep in mind that cutting out those side panels may help ...

depending on your case and airflow, you may be able to go with a passive solution. I'm successfully using an Aerocool VM-101 Fanless VGA Cooler on a regular (not ultra) PNY 6800 and it provides enough cooling because the heatsink hangs on the back of the card and is oriented right in front of my 120...

quiet that shuttle
Tower cases do offer more options, but you can make that shuttle pretty derned quiet. I think the goal on that one, since you don't have any options on power supply should be to get it to the point where the psu is the loudest component. Here's how i silenced my ss51: replaced the stock ICE fan with...

passive coolers for 6800
Aerocool makes a passive one that is universal:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 101&depa=0
And so does Zalman:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 216&depa=0
I am currently using the Aerocool one on a PNY 6800 and it works like a champ.

passively cooled 6800
Aerocool makes a similar cooler: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=35-127-101&depa=0 I am currently using this on a PNY Geforce 6800 with a little arctic silver 5. It works like a champ. the heatskink hangs over on the back side of the card so it is oriented almost directly i...

passively cooled 9600xt
sapphire sells a 9600xt with a passive heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-342&depa=0 don't overestimate the effectiveness of those crappo heatsink/fan combos that come on graphics cards (especially the ati ones) a good passive heatsink in close proximity to yo...

passive cooler
I am using a PNY geforce 6800 with an Aerocool VM-101 Fanless VGA Cooler and arctic silver 5. It works like a champ - case temps stay under 40c after several hours of Unreal Tournament 2004. Only fans in the case are a 120mm Nexus (case exhaust) and the 120mm fan in my Seasonic Super Tornado 300 psu...

2 case fans
In my experience, an intake and exhaust fan offers little or no performance over a single exhaust fan. I use an antec sonata case and have tried it with just 1 nexus 120mm fan as exhaust and also with one in front and back. I noticed no reduction in the case temp and the single exhaust fan spinning ...

probably not a good idea
the idea is to have good airflow through the case - in most pc enclosures that generally means cooler air enters from the front of the case, is heated by the internal components, and exits the rear of the case through the case exhaust fan and the power supply. by closing most of the intake holes in ...
