NSK1380 and 3.5" bay

I'm realizing that even after these years the NSK1380 may be closer to meeting my needs (low-power FM2 SFF build) than most cases out there. But I do wish it had a 3.5" bay in addition to the 5.25" bay. (I'd also wish for USB3- but many 3.5" bay devices include USB3 front ports.) Pictures seem to in...

Re: Mini-ITX- Thermaltake SD101? Alternatives?

After some sleuthing I found the SD101's frame appears to be much the same as a couple of In-Win cases e.g. BM639 or 648, with a fancier exterior, USB3, and the PSU In-Win calls the IP-AD180-2 rather than the 160W one . The 160W PSU was reviewed as being very surprisingly efficient and quiet for wha...

Re: Mini-ITX- Thermaltake SD101? Alternatives?

I ended up ordering the A6-5400K on sale- some dying hardware made building this box more urgent, and I'll figure on an upgrade to Richland or Kabini sometime down the road. Still haven't figured out what case to grab. Someone was reselling their stock cooler and they were able to tell me that it's ...

Re: Mini-ITX- Thermaltake SD101? Alternatives?

MikeC, when I said I wasn't chasing the absolute minimum volume I'm talking liters not dBA :) Pappnaas, the Cooler Master inexplicably takes a USB3 header and wastes it by only providing one rather than two ports, it's larger than the Lian Li and the Thermaltake put together, and Anandtech wasn't im...

Re: Mini-ITX- Thermaltake SD101? Alternatives?

Hm. When I was looking at the pictures I was thinking about CPU/case cooling and didn't notice what they were doing with the PSU. It's kind of hard to be sure what's going on there from their pictures. They're apparently saying the front bezel allows airflow directly into the PSU; no sign of intake ...

Re: Mini-ITX- Thermaltake SD101? Alternatives?

Nobody with any comments or alternative recommendations? They're using an unusual airflow pattern . Anybody have a comment on how well you think that'll work esp. acoustics-wise? Thermaltake says not to use >45mm tall CPU coolers; I don't know if that means it has exactly 45mm of clearance with ever...

Mini-ITX- Thermaltake SD101? Alternatives?

I'm looking to do a FM2 pseudo-HTPC build using the upcoming AMD A10-6700 (65W TDP, basically a tweaked version of this ). Most of the time the system will be used for more mundane tasks, but what movie watching, gaming, etc we do will be on it as well. I'm thinking to go Mini-ITX. The just-released...

Re: Llano mini-ITX build

I'll keep tabs on the MI-008 and its Apex kin in case of a sale sometime between now and when the processors come out. If I have to replace the PSU, at $45 it's an OK deal but not a slam dunk. Since even the stock HSF for Llano is 5cm ( http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardware/205645-so-i-build-me-lla...

Llano mini-ITX build

Though the Llano chip SPCR and most reviewers got (A8-3850) doesn't seem to be optimal for building a silent system, I was impressed enough by the 65W TDP A8-3800 (see http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-a8-3800_21.html ) that I'm planning on building a system using either that or the A...

Well, given that the Accelero S2 is inexpensive and despite its colossal size actually weighs less than a lot of other vga cooling solutions, I ended up going the overkill route and getting one. After finals and Christmas and being sick I was finally able to get around to installing it. I mistakenly...

Simple VGA cooler?

Some time ago, my PNY NV5700LE's fan (which was the loudest thing in my system by a good bit anyway) started making loads and loads of noise, and so I just unplugged it. Since this card consumes very little power and I haven't done any 3d stuff for a while (too busy), the dinky heatsink which comes ...

I have a AGP2x (3.3V) G400 16MB (2x VGA out) which I could sell for shipping+a song- if somebody happens to still have a 3.3V compatible mobo it's a very nice 2d card. It's been sitting in a box for three years (ever since I got a 1.5/0.8V only mobo). m0002a, there's pretty much no way you can use a...

There's no reason for it to have an ATA100 interface. Heck, 7200RPM hard drives are just now breaking the 66 MB/s limit for non-cache transfers. DVDs currently max out around 21MB/s (CDs are considerably slower). The Blu-Ray folks advertise their medium as giving a maximum transfer rate of 54MB/s, s...

I use regular Mozilla as well (1.7.x), but unlike ilh I'll assume that since they share the same rendering engine and lots of other code that a vote for FF is a vote for Moz. MikeC, I'm surprised- any half-decent server log analyzer, much less tracking software, ought to allow for simple user-agent ...

Lots of components of the Mac Mini, notably including the north/southbridges, GPU, and half the VRAM, are on the bottom side of the board. I personally doubt this kind of thing will catch on anywhere except on boards where space is at a premium. However, in some of those cases (pun not intended) a t...

Great to see this reviewed! I had suspected ( http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?p=137695 ) that this cooler would be worth a good hard look. I also contacted Arctic Cooling (around Thanksgiving) regarding North American availability, and they said they were trying to have the SS4 and S6...

Arctic Cooling Ultra TC HSFs

Arctic Cooling's "Ultra" successors to its small, light, cool, and quiet Super Silent 4 TC and Silencer 64 TC integrated HSFs were announced in August, and are marketed as being superior to their predecessors in every way. However, I've seen neither reviews nor US (or Canada) availability of them (t...
