Yes, Dimitri left and the program hasn't been updated. As a result, the program may be incompatible with new CPU's. Fortunately, it still works with my old computer so I am safe until I upgrade :-)

frank2003,

I try scheduling a rmclock and it apparently works! OK, I can't get to the RmClock control panel any more, but that is a minor issue. Thanks for the tip.

The problem is that different people use the system, and not everyone has admin. I want RmClock running as a service so that everyone can make use of the benefits.

Undervolting program that I can run as a windows service

Hi, I have been using RmClock for years on my ancient Athlon XP system. Despite its age, it's speedy enough to get most of job done. I have been using RMclock to undervolt the board, but it doesn't run as a service. I was wondering if anyone have experience with Crystalcpuid or Notebook Hardware Con...

Decent ATX case for around $50?

I have an ancient Athlon XP machine with a case that's literally falling apart. Despite being old, the computer is still quite a bit faster than the Atom processors they're selling these days. In any case, it gets the job done so I rather keep it for a while (and money is tight these days). I was wo...

well, I purchased a Thermaltake TT6025 60mm case fan. I discovered that it does push enough air, but is too loud. It turns out the old fan wasn't really too loud, but just that the vibration from the fan spinning caused a lot of the noise. I am going to look into replacing the heatsink and fan. It a...

It looks like the Vantec is not going to work. Looking at the location of the thermo sensor, it's going to gauge the air coming from the front of the fan. This mean it will never able to detect how hot the CPU is getting and run at the lowest possible speed.

It's just a stock 60mm Intel heatsink that uses a AVC F6010T12HS 60mm x 60mm x 10mm fan and appears to screw into the heatsink's fins. there's no place for ties. The replacement is likely to be this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999615 As you can see the screws seemed a b...

A "screwy" issue

I am thinking of replacing a 10mm thick fan with a 25mm thick fan. Obviously the screws on the old fan won't fit. The screws on the new fan appears to be really short and designed for case mounting. Any idea what sort of screws do I need to attach the fan to the heatsink and where can I find them. P...

After reading some of the reviews, it appears that SilenX fan tend to exaggerate their noise and cfm rating. This mean the fan is probably not 18 cfm at all. There's also been comments about reliability issues. A 92 mm cooler would probably be better, but I don't think it will fit the space (the pow...

Need opinion on CPU fan replacement

My mother's computer is way too loud. The noise has been traced to the CPU fan. Ideally, all I need to do is to replace the CPU heatsink. Unfortunately, the machine in question is a eMachine T1221. This is an old socket 370 Celeron (Pentium III Tualatin core). The Trigem Lomita board on it doesn't h...

Has anyone try something goofy like using a meat thermometer and attach it to the heat sink fin? Again, I am less interested in actual temperature. For example, if the current setup generate a reading of 40C. I am not that interested if the cpu is actually at 40C, what I am interested is if I change...

OK, I have done more research. * The Celeron does have a thermal diode, but apparently, the BIOS does not read the value and so it does not show up in the power management. * The South Bridge chip only handles fan speed, but not temperature reading. * Normally, there is a monitor chip like ADM1023, ...

Hmm... According to this article, the CPU appear to have a sensor already:

However, I may be wrong. If the cpu have a temp sensor, how does the info get to the OS?

I can't seemed to read the temperature of my CPU

I am running into a problem where I can't seemed to read the temperature off an eMachine T1221 computer. It uses a Trigem Lomita motherboard and is a Celeron (Pentium III Tualatin based). I have run the following program on it: Everest Home Edition (old, but is later than the computer) PC Wizard 200...

Well, I made some progress: 1. No to the 60mm to 80mm idea. Most of the post seems to indicate a negative performance effect from the funnel. 2. Due to the motherboard layout, a much larger heat sink is out of the question since it would hit the power supply. Besides, I am trying to keep the cost do...

It's a socket 370.

I found a panflo fan that outputs 12 cfm. I am thinking that this is too low. The problem is that I don't know the spec of the current heatsink and i have no way of measuring the output (I even try using speedfan, but apparently the chipset is not supported).

Are case fans different than CPU fans?

Recently, my mom has been complaining that her ancient eMachine was too loud. The noise appear to be the cpu fan. I was thinking about swapping out the old one with a quieter fan. The problem is that I can't find any 60mm cpu fan. All of the 60mm fan out there seems to be for cases. I am thinking th...

It depends on the segment of the market though. I used to work in the embedded medical sector. In that specialized tool, low volume market, the cost doesn't count all that much. On a high volume item, you may even have some guy who specializes on redesigning the product to save a few dollar since th...

Well speed isn't everything. Most people just need the cpu to be fast enough to do x. It's just that price performance for mini-itx have been pretty bad. That may change soon with all of these cheaper board and low power processors coming out.

Whither Via?

Personally, I don't own any Via products. A friend of mine wanted to upgrade his mini-itx Via C3 and wanted to know what he should go with. I got curious about the Via line because of the low power consumption, but after investigating it, I wondered how Via managed to survived for so long. * The C7 ...

Thanks gentonix. I did check the specs for the Sempron and it appears to use less power than the Turion because it is rated at 25 W vs the Turion x2's 31 W. However, I eventually got a Core Duo machine. After getting a list of machines under the corporate discount, I discovered that the Core Duo wou...

Does Socket S1 Mobile Sempron have a lower power

I notice recently that there are Mobile Sempron out on the new S1 socket. One thing I notice in the various articles is that the Turion X2 runs at the same power level as the old Turion even though there are two core. Since the Semprons are essentially half of a Turion X2, I wonder if the power draw...

OK, so a Turion uses roughly half the power of a non-Turion venice. Hmm.. I wonder if a Turion is better at undervolting than a desktop processor?
