Nice, just upgraded to a 2GB Kingston Hyper-X DDR2-800 'SLI Certified' memory kit. I wasn't too pleased; I had to OC the memory to work at Kingston’s advertised timing speeds. Originally set at 5.5.5.16, now 4.4.4.12@2.00volt EDIT: ordered an Antec P180 for 50bux after rebate, should have it today...

I was not aware you could relocate the tunnel fan in front of the drive cage. Any details on that? Since you can hear the drives, are you hearing them from case vibration or data transfers [seeking]?

Sorry for responding sooner, work + holiday weekend = busy, busy ;) Thejamppa Thanks, with the front grill still in tact I doubt the fan would have fit, But since I had it chopped off from last time everything went smoothly. psiu Actually the duct is dead-on, my intentions were to have two heat extr...

Check your local car parts store for a 3M adhesive spray. I used the ‘heavy’ version to secure the 2-layer sound deafening panels on my side panels. BTW those linoleum floor tiles some people use, usually have an adhesive backing.

That case is an Antec P180, P180B or P182 visit Antec's site give those models a look. They've also got a P190 series which is similar, but longer.

Skip the suspended drive cage, I’ve taken that route before. If you balance the case so it's even with the case eventually the elastic will breakdown and you'll notice resonance from the FDD mounting plate. Instead sandwich it between two/four pieces of foam. Works really nicely and if your system...

Making old, new again. Overkill in an Antec 3000B

original title: 'Making old, new again. Stuffing an 8800GTS into an Antec 3000B' I recently decided to build another primary computer in anticipation of a couple upcoming PC games and a desire to decode H264 videos greater than 720p. My current system has served me well since it creation, but it’s...

SuperMicro is a great company, which builds quality boards. No doubt about it, and they offer unique configurations other brands often pass on. A good example would be a specialized ICA board which featured a socket 478 processor and an 875 chipset. A good example of how they distinguish themselves ...

A lot of office pcs sound very quiet, because of background noise. Offices tend to have ‘supple’ amounts of background noise, so you naturally blend it away. The end result is that you think the computer is quiet, when it’s actually not. I’ve experienced this phenomenon on at least one occas...

Since you are going with a QX6700 and ATI, not Nvidia I’d suggest an Intel reference board such as the D975XBX2. Comes passively cooled and can Crossfire it, when you feel the urge to upgrade to a 2nd card. In any case, if your going to spend retail for a QX6700, make sure you don’t cheap out on...

Ok guys, I got took advantage of a good deal from my favorite company [Intel] and picked up a D975XBX2 and QX6700 processor. Which puts me in the market for a new videocard and tower... I’m looking at a PNY 8800GTS 640MB, not pleased with the cost, but that’s another story. As no DX10 card will ...

Well aware that it was total power draw, the point was that there should have not been a change of 78watts if there was so little difference in power consumption between the two. And if you were to assume that your average power supply lost 20% of it's draw to conversion, that'd still only reduce th...

What? Do you mean this chip ? The TDP on that is 130W, not 300W. No CPU on earth could handle 300W, the power density is just too high, the chip would melt. Even with LN2 cooling I'd be surprised if it was possible. Is that so? http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/pentium-xe-840/index.x?pg=16 130wa...

While I have not had any experience with the 8800 series cards yet, I would recommend the highest watt PSU you can afford. Seasonic 600 watt PSU is a nice unit and might do what you want, but as an OEM with experience on mild to high performance systems, I can tell you that one was not enough to ade...

The 360s stock cooling fans are offensive, I wish Nexus or Scythe would release a replacement fan kit. There is the Talismoon replacement fan kit, but they look like crappy YS Tech fans and having used clear YS Tech fans in the past, I can say tell you that they are not silent and don’t last. Whic...

All companies? As an employee of a small OEM, I somewhat take offence to that. Granted, our standard spec computers don’t meet my near silent mark, we’re always willing to custom tailor a system around an individuals needs. Which can be somewhat expensive, as our normal distributors don’t carr...

Intel d975xbx + Scythe Ninja = gold?

Hey guys, after months of beating Intel upside their heads I've finally got an Intel d975xbx 'bad axe' motherboard to match my Core2duo 6700 ‘confidential’ and I'd like to reuse my Scythe Ninja, does anyone know if the Ninja fits properly with this board? The passive 'blue flame' coolers look li...
