Posted my review of the drives. Just a note, HD Tach doesn't say everything about a drive's performance. The difference doesn't seem to be big, but I still think the performance difference is a lot bigger in real-life situations. It's just that you shouldn't be surprised if some things are really s...

Okay, thanks for the info!JazzJackRabbit wrote:8 is the lowest multiplier available on AN35N-ULTRA. I tried couple of hours before 100Mhz x 8.0 x 1.25v and the system wouldn't boot either despite the fact that 133x8x1.25 works fine. I think I just got a bad CPU that won't underclock/undervolt that low.

I think the problem is more likely to be caused by un-undervoltable CPU than mobo. I suppose just as overclocking is YMMV, so is undervolting. Did you try 1.1 V on really low frequencies too? I can't really imagine that a AXP-M at 500-600 MHz wouldn't boot at 1.1... Not booting is even worse than n...

Experiences? I can probably add one. I just built really low noise system based on AXP-M on Shuttle AN35N mobo with passively coooled Aerocool HT-101 heatsink. So far I'm running it at 133Mhz bus with 8.0 multiplier. I do have problems with undervolting it though. So far it's down to 1.25V and perf...

Ah I see, so the lowest possible frequency will be 633 MHz. One thing to consider is that you can't boot at 1.1v.. How do you actually mean that? Is 1.1 V not selectable? 667MHz actually (by my calculator). I couldn't clearly remember my calculator output... :-P :-P 1.1V is selectable, but when I t...

First, thanks for your clear explanation! That leaves only a couple of small questions... There are three utilities which will do what you want. Clockgen allows you to change speed with the click of a desktop icon. Crystal CPUID is in my opinion a better tool than clockgen and is what i am currently...

Ok, here's my reply, as promised. I got a laptop instead of the NF7-M board etc., but here's some info I found on Abit's site: http://www.abit-usa.com/technology/softmenu.php (the NF7-M is listed as using this in its BIOS) http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=7 (gener...

Interesting... Apparently, I can have a 5x multiplier selectable, but not 100MHz. 133MHz is the minimum. One thing to consider is that you can't boot at 1.1v. I just tried now. What I do is boot at 2GHz & 1.35v (166MHz FSB)and then use 8rdavcore to drop that down to 1.2GHz & 1.1v (THAT program can ...

sorry fo hijacking your thread, but i think it fits here Ed - What about a preformance of a 90 nm Athlon 64 3000+ 800 MHz @ 0.8V. Can you compare it to PIII/733@133FSB or Tualatin1.2@100FSB? No problem, I'm interested as well. Looking at Tom's Hardware Guides latest CPU test, one can see that an 80...

I don't really intend this to look like a lecture, since I'm well aware that most of you already know this. Also, maybe I'm not 100% correct either. There may be something that makes reality differ quite a bit from theory that I'm not aware of. I don't know. Isn't your calculation based on linear f...

Undervoltable & -clockable (by MP & HT) S-939 board?
Hi all, I already started a thread about socket A boards, but this about a socket 939 boards. I'm shopping for both actually. Is there already some people thinking I'm messing up the forum with many threads lately? :-P :-P There's not a lot information available about socket 939 boards for low-power...

If you are underclocking that low permenantly, you probably want to make sure that you choose an OS that will run efficiently at that speed. WinXP may not be a great option since it eats resources up. I take it you have done your homework and am guessing that something like 1.0ghz wouldnt do passiv...

Do you want to underclock that low permanently? Yep, permanently. If so have a look at a VIA Epia PD10000 . - Dual LAN - Integrated video - Low power consumption - smaller than mATX I already have the Athlon XP-M lying around, it's almost 6 months old right now. So it needs a place in a computer......

Dago, could you please tell us what's in your HTPC? I'm in the process of selecting parts for my own HTPC, and find it difficult to know how powerful brick-PSU I need. Is there any reason you're not considering Aopen boards? I have an Aopen AK79D-400VN. I can run my Athlon XP-M 2600 at the 2nd speed you mentioned (I know for a fact, because I've done this accidentally). Thanks for sharing your experiences! I just forgot about the AOpen boards, but now they're add...

What kind of brick PSU kit did you got? And where did you buy that?dago wrote:Other advantage of PSU with external brick is the size of what goes inside the box. That's what I have in my HTPC and am very happy with it
The brick is also the only part to heat, the DC-DC circuit doesn't (significantly).

Undervoltable & -clockable (by MP & FSB) S-A board?
Hi all, I'm still looking for a socket A motherboard which fulfils my needs. On a certain moment I thought I found the one, the Soltek SL-75MIV2-L... I ordered it, but the same day I read this thread .. Aaahh no possibility to change the multiplier!! So I canceled the order for that board... I'm get...
