I've got also experience with hiss coming from the mobo. It only occurred when transferring LOTS of data through the network interface. My MSI K8N Neo2 FSR does this and a Dell GX150 I used to use at work, but my ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe doesn't.

I think the problem is more likely to be caused by un-undervoltable CPU than mobo. I suppose just as overclocking is YMMV, so is undervolting. Did you try 1.1 V on really low frequencies too? I can't really imagine that a AXP-M at 500-600 MHz wouldn't boot at 1.1... Not booting is even worse than n...

If you are underclocking that low permenantly, you probably want to make sure that you choose an OS that will run efficiently at that speed.
