Man this card is a beast, without any fan mods getting 36c idle and 52c load in bfbc2.
Can't judge the noise with all the rain outside, will see how it goes the rest of the week

Re: Geforce 560 or Radeon 6850/6870
Hi Svartberg, to answer your questions: 5 - I try to ground myself on the computer's chassis before handling components (plugged in but turned off is best) - however I not sure it's a big issue, never had an trouble, just don't be wearing a really static jumper! 1 - The screws for the fans/bezel, w...

Re: Geforce 560 or Radeon 6850/6870
6870 chip is an astonishing 1700M transistors The HD7970 sniffs at your mere 1700M transistors as it has 4.3B! On the Nvidia side the consensus seems to be of the GTX560 & 560 Ti the Gainward Phantoms are the quietest stock cards. I took the view no stock card will be quiet enough for me and theref...

Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu
I decided to wait and see what's going on with the next gen cards. The 7970 is already here, won't be to long before the 7950 and word is we'll see a new geforce in feb or march (no way to know for sure though). If they are all as expensive as the 7970 I'll probably still get an older card, but hop...

Re: Average load powerful gpu vs full load "quiet" gpu
Heh, looks like we're in the same boat kermith ! Did you find what you were looking for ? Got a gtx 285 here that's whining like crazy with new games, and you know what the card still performed well, just high temps. So I've tried installing an aftermarket cooler yesterday (zalman vf3000n), to make ...

I'm currently using the gigabyte 7600gt pipe, which is a really kickass card, noiseless and very cool. But it's time to move on, and 8800gs 320mb is the best bang for the buck. I had nothing but dissapointments with custom vga coolers in the past (tried the zalman and arctic ones). I'd love to hear ...

I've finally bought the WD2500KS, and it seems like a very good buy. I run them both in the upper HDD box of my p180, and I don't find it any noisier than my beloved barracuda 120gb, and the performance boost over the barracuda is quite nice. The only alternative i considered was the Samsung sp2504c...

Perceived noise depends on your ambient noise, i for example can hear one suspended quiet 3,5" drive in a normal case under the desk, with the hdd being the only thing making noise in the first place. Now at my cousins i can´t hear he´s computer at all, though he has about seven quiet fans and th...

Well, since i don't own a laptop nor did i mention it - i assume you meant mounting the laptop HD on my Desktop.haelduksf wrote:It ain't 250GB, but Seagate's new laptop drives are up to 200GB, if you can live with that.
I haven't heard of that yet, what advantages/disadvantages would that give me ?

Bad time to buy a new HD ?
I was reading quite a few posts here and the impression i have is that HD's today are noisy, unreliable, and have high vibrations. However i still have a need for a 250gig drive, and am looking for something in the noise levels of my old Seagate Barracuda (ST3120026A) 120gb 7200rpm. (i hear today's ...

thanks for the info. i think my old man has a dremel, i'll check it out sometime. i'm pretty sure my annoying noise isn't because of vibration (though obviously there's a certain noise factor due to vibration) - btw, can't vibration noise be tested by holding the metal/fan with your hands to stop th...

JazzJackRabbit : may i ask with what tools you cut such a grill ? As for the top hole, i have a feeling the book or your cartboard doesn't seal it that well - it would be nice if antec supplied a sealing plastic that fits into the hole and screws. Thanks for the comments, good to know it wasn't my m...

P180 noisy rear grill ?
I've noticed my rear exhaust fan generates pretty much the same noise on full power as both my front and cpu fan. Since they're all the same fans (yate loons 120mm) i'm pretty sure the higher noise is due to the dense rear grill on the P180. Did anyone else noticed this ? What did you do, or advice ...

Way too much, i reckon over 300$ for sure. I think it would actually cost me less to get it all watercooled with the best parts - plus it's all too noisy in my current comp so i need to spend another ~150$ soon. (i recently bought a new comp and replaced much of it) I wonder how it would look like i...

This pretty much a lot of issues i had with P180. I would add the rattling noise on the grill of the back fan, when the fan was set for more than 7v - it happened only when the door was closed, and after reading some posts, it somewhat (hopefully) disappeared after i loosen the screws a bit. Overall...

That is a very useful topic for me, thanks. I'm currently running the p180 with 2 of the tricool fans (front and back, not using the x35mm) with a 7700 zalman, i bet that brings memories ;) Basically the system is quieter than my last rig while idle, but on cpu intensive tasks it's noiser. from what...

The difference in temps is very minimal, i have seen a ~1-2 drop of degrees with the silver thermalpaste, and the one it replaced was a cheap type. I would assume the ones bundled with better hitsinks are more than adequate and you shouldn't buy and apply an arcticsilver unless you're already replac...

It's very hard to find good qui[et] fans in israel, but someone recommended me this fan :

Can anyone comment on it ? How quiet is it ? And should i get this for both cpu (3500 venice + thermalright xp120) and case cooling ?

I recently ordered an asus dual sata 939, and have an XP-120 on the way.
