Then you won't mind walking off a cliff, will you? I've done it before. It can be a ton of fun but make sure you bring a parachute. Are you blaming corn-made ethanol for the food shortages? I think the droughts and floods have something to do with it, too. Droughts and floods are not preventable. B...

Yep, we are arguing two different points. Happens to me a lot. Yeah, developing countries are slow to react, and their populations are getting bigger, but there is also hope for many of them. The worst thing to happen to them in many years though is Biofuel. If I believed in conspiracy theories, I w...

Large differences CAN be made by a collection of small changes. I am not saying that we shouldn't conserve at all but we should do so in a way that makes sense and not just jump on the bandwagon of green that is so often completely wrong. As for the argument that the rich are getting richer at the e...

That is pretty much the lamest cartoon I have ever seen. Wow, are you serious? Your hatred for all things Bush has clouded any rational judgment you may have had. This is the last statement I will make to you because, while I really enjoy talking about different points of view, I do not discuss anyt...

Wow, you all took my comment way farther than it was meant to be. It was an angry generalized rant from a fellow that lives in the ultra yuppie Palo Alto California area where everyone buys into the falsified idea of green products just to throw away perfectly good stuff. I am a realist, I absolutel...

The article didn't have much to say, unfortunately, apart from basic cost calculations. I'm not so much worried about current costs but more about future costs. If you've seen a documentary like "A Crude Awakening" google video or looked at http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ , then if you're like...

Dude, you need to organize your thoughts a little better. I am having a hard time following you. First off, there are lots of us here who build cheap silent PCs and some of it is covered in reviews of this site. The Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 is one example of a quiet heatsink for $10. Try to organize ...

Glad to hear it. I love the Alpine 7. I have 5 of them. Don't worry about temperatures below 55 C. Low temperatures are only important when trying to get the last few mhz out of an extreme overclock. I tend to run my CPUs all the way to 60C before I get a tiny bit nervous. (not that any of my CPUs r...

Any chance you could try some videos on that thing? I am interested in whether it can play 1080i mpeg2 HD. Being in Germany, you may not have access to a file to play though. Also, if you try it, make sure you use the mpeg2 hardware acceleration that the GMA950 has by using something like cyberlink ...

SPCR designed a gaming rig that is very quiet. I think you would do well to study it. You don't need to copy it, but learn from it.

The x3100 runs vista aero just fine and the celeron should be able to keep up for basic tasks. Vista is only marginally harder on CPUs. My 1.5ghz dual core x3100 feels nice and peppy as long as you have 2GB or more of ram. I've got 4GB just cause it was so damn cheap. You might consider a dual core ...

Have you considered going with the Hauppauge media MVP instead and using a client server system? I'm sure you have an older machine that you could make quiet and put in a closet. Word is that the MVP has better SD video quality than a computer. Just a suggestion... Also, i don't agree with the bigge...

Much of your perception of quiet is determined by your environment. I had an office computer with a Zalman flower at 7V (not a very quiet machine in my house) that was totally inaudible in the office because I was near a street with some traffic. If you live in the middle of rural Canada in a concre...
