Slightly concerned that they may not be as reliable.
I guess I'll go for cuda IV ... are those models still available ?

I used to have this problem. I ended up removing the drive and getting a cuda IV. I also know several people who have had this IBM drive crash on them, losing all their data. I would avoid them personally. I think I'll follow your path, going for a cuda seems a smart and silent choice...I really do...

I recently read that certain fans, including some Pabsts, don't start reliably with low voltage, and they need full voltage to start spining. One person suggested soldering a 10-50uF capacitor across the thermistor to provide this during the first few seconds. I've also had some sleeve bearing fans...

A bit of bad news maybe. Two users in the same thread @ SR report hearing chirps (like crickets) every 5-10 minutes from their 180GXP drives. That's sadly true  I'm the owner of a 120GXP and I've experienced those short intrusive buzzing noise (resembling crickets or trapped flies) lasting two...

IBM 120GXP annoying periodical buzzing noise (DFT OK!)

Anyone of you are experiencing the annoying buzzing noise made by my brand new IBM 120GXP, also known as "Idle Time Function" :x ? It happens every 10 minutes exactly and sounds very intrusive, lasting about 2 seconds. This function only stops if the disk is intensively accessed when the 10 minutes ...
