I contacted a german shop wich sells Seasonic psus and asked if they will sell the SS-400HT. Well they answered me that they will check the price and sell them if they come avaiable. So hopefully next week I can tell you more if you can buy a SS-400HT. Could you tell me which shop this is? :) Consi...

Probably for the same reason mains electricity is transported across the country at 15,000V* rather than 15,000A - power loss is reduced. *actual voltage varies with location. Do not test yourself with a voltmeter. Well .. no. That's because the powercables act as resistors (about 1Ohm/metre @ 1mm ...

Momentus Question
As you know there's two versions, 2mb cache and 8mb cache. There's only a 7USD difference in the drives, still, I'm wondering whether the extra cache is worth it, at the cost of consuming more power (and 7 bucks )..
Anyone?

The thing that bothers me about Zalman PSU's is that they waste a shitload of power when they're turned off. Your average ATX PSU won't consume much more than 10W when turned off, but the goodie Zalman manages to draw anywhere between 20 and 40W. Why, I do not know. But I know it needs fixing. (Yes ...

Haha. Yes yes, I am quite certain of it. It was a simple boot process followed by 10 minutes of inactivity. The difference was pretty much the same during the boot process. And even if it was a PFC issue my line would have to be serious shit. I mean 60W difference ...... that'd mean I'd have to have...

It reads out in KWh, as well as volts and amps seperately. The reading is pretty accurate imho as the device is certified by my power company (so I'm assuming the results are comparable to the ones used to base my bills on). It's still quite odd and makes very little sense. Maybe I should try anothe...

Disturbing discovery on Aopen PSU
I have an energy-meter laying around and I was curious to see how much some of systems consumed. One of them is a Duron 950mhz with a simple 3gig hd, 64mb SDRAM and one fan (the CPU fan). It used an Aopen 300W PSU. Odd enough it consumed a whopping 90Watts while *IDLING* under OpenBSD. I swapped the...

UPS (no no, not the delivery guys)
I've been thinking of buying a UPS -- interruptable power supply -- for quite some time now. I have my eyes set on one of Merlin Gerin's smaller models. One of the Pulsar Ellipse series (don't know which one yet, somewhere inbetween 500 and 800VA). However, I have one consern .. silence. Does anyone...

I installed the ZM80A today -- without a fan -- on my FX5600. I found the installation to be rather time consuming and cumbersome, but it's worth it alright! After playing JediKnight: Jedi Academy (multiplayer) for 2 hours the heatsink was warm, but not hot. So that's good I guess. I'm afraid I don'...

DVD +/- R(W) & CDRW
Mmm .. does anyone know of a dvd rw/cdrw combo drive? (Preferably one that can handle both the + as - standard) Of course I would very much like it to be silent, duh. And erhm, if possible, not too pricy?

It's precisely this kind of ridiculous pell-mell drive to higher speed with no regard to thermal / noise issues that makes VIA's C3 look so much "smarter". If the C3 could be ramped up to match the computing power of something like an Athlon 1G, XP1600 or P4-1.6A while keeping the heat down below 2...

Does not change the rule. Left hand in pocket. That's always a good rule, when you can spare the hand that is. Caution is important though. By having your left hand in your pocket, you block the path from your left hand to ground via either foot, through your heart. Current passing from your right ...
