STOP PRESS!!!!!!!!! Have just checked my email and i had a prompt response from Paul at QuietPc.com. Despite it being out of guarantee, he not only said he would send me a new one out straight away, but also gave me a choice of Zalman, Q-Technology and the Nexus! Went for the Nexus :) Needless to sa...

Thanks guys, yeah with postage (from £3.75 i think it said), it should be just over £60 for the nexus from halcyonics. Had a look at the SilenX from the states and Exoticpc.com said shipping was around $40 with 14dB PSU at $80, and 18dB at $60, couldnt find shipping info at silenx.com. Would rather ...

Ok, jus wondering how your measuring your temps ie what prog? how is the PSU temp measured? are you sure you're measuring the right temps? Have you tried using a CPU stress test like Prime95 and using MBM to measure temps? I would say have the CPU fan at 7.5V and the case fans at 5V. What are the sp...

Re: I think I need a better heatsink for my P4 2.4Ghz
So I guess what I am looking for is a recommendation on things I can do to make the system more silent. I saw the recommendation on the Thermaright SLK-900U. Should I go with something like this and 92 mm pana fan? Does this setup really cool that much better than what I have? Yes it will! Much bet...

I dont know how p4 work but if that was an athlon my guess would be that you are geting 2 readings for the cpu: - the internal temperature sensor; and the cpu temperature sensor located on the board. True for Athlons, but Pentium boards dont have a temp sensor under the chip... I would also like to...

Found a pic here of something which is like what i meant, you will need to use a couple of layers. http://www.raving.demon.co.uk/pics/flashtape.gif Its what people use to dampen vibrations in cars too. ps: how were you planning on attaching the mdf to the case? You said silicon, but did you mean ove...

Far too difficult to say i think - even if you did get a number you would need to take into account the fact that you dont know how much CFM you will get from a fan setup after it has to contend with all the obstacles in a case. Having said that i think i would try using 2 L1a's - 1 in, 1 out, and s...

Re: ZM80A-HP in the post
where do these fans get their power? 3-pins plug into the mobo and 4-pins to the PSU, would that be right? So if I have already used the 3-pin connector for my CPU HSF, where do I plug in any additional fans? You can get splitters which convert PSU (4pin) connectors into 1 or more 3pin fan connecto...

No, it should all be fine. Are you thinking of the problems people get when mixing copper and Alu in watercooling systems? Why not make it out of card? Much easier and cheaper? PS im doing something similar in mine - i have a 5V panaflo pushing air in at the front top and have taken the top two fron...

Yeah, as soon as you pick the stuff up you will realise its perfect for the job, very dense, flexible and self adhesive. It shouldnt sag or anything, but while your there get some duct tape (2" wide stuff) so you can tape around each edge of the roofing tape as you put it on. The stuff in my car isn...

To get the density up you want to use some roofing tape from homebase or B&Q. It is a bitumen based layer with an aluminium layer on one side - about 2mm altogther. You warm the bitumen with a hair dryer and stick it straight to the inside of the case. Then duct tape along each edge to double check ...

Hehe, i jus suggested something similar to this in another thread! Are you running it without a fan now? What do you have in the computer? I be v. careful your PSU doesnt overheat, it might take other components with it if it dies! A 5V Panaflo wont create any noise and would improve airflow in the ...

You sure you'll be able to fit the connectors thru the case? The ATX connector and mains connector are pretty big, not sure if i could find a hole big enough to get them thru... unless you were thinking of unwiring them? I'd thought of doing something similar to this, but fixing the PSU on the back ...

You'll need pretty long power cables tho wont you? And some place to put them thru the case... dont think mine would reach that far. Assuming i right in thinking that the power cables would now be sticking out of the back of the computer? Also you would need to feed the mains power cable into the co...

If its just a server, cant you put it out of the way somewhere? For example, my 1.8A OCed to a 2.4B is inaudible, and its just in a cupboard, which i sit right next to (though it is a large builtin cupboard approx. 10'x7'x2' which is right next to the cold attic, so no probs with the cupboard overhe...
