Something like a Sonata/P18x drive sled for 5.25" bays?

I just got a P180 Mini and want to use the lower two optical drive bays for mounting hard drives. Does anyone make something like this (an Antec hard drive sled with dampeners/decouplers) but for mounting 3.5" hard drives in 5.25" drive bays? I would expect something like this to have normal screw h...

I don't do eBay, but give me a shipped price for the SR107 and the SATA backplane to 19426 and I'll think about it...rebuilding the home server, need more drive space, and this would fit the bill.

Thanks

Good PSU choice for Mini P180?

I'm looking at an Antec P180 Mini for a home file server build. I haven't seen the case in person, but it looks like a power supply with a rear fan (as opposed to a bottom fan and vented rear) would be a better choice. Is this the case? If so, what's a good choice for a 350-400w PSU? I'll be using a...

Mini P180 hard drive bay question

I'm looking for a new home file server case, and the Mini P180 might fit the bill -- mainly for the 5 drive capacity (plus 3 more if I want to put a 3-in-2 in the bottom optical bays). One thing I wondered when looking at it was, there are 2 hard drive bays, both removable. Are they interchangeable?...

I'm interested, that should work in my Aopen i855 board (it has a sticker on the box saying that it has 533MHz bus support). Is this just the bare CPU? Or is there some sort of heatsink also?

Do you accept non-CC PayPal?

Found my own answer, via another forum. I plugged a USB -> PS/2 converter (one that allows you to plug a PS/2 mouse and keyboard into a single USB port) and that did the trick.

AOpen i855GMEm-LFS - how to enable boot without keyboard?

I'm getting my new home file server up and running. It's based upon an AOpen i855GMEm-LFS socket 479 motherboard running a 1.4GHz Pentium-M with a GIG of RAM in a Silverstone LC-11 case. It's absolutely perfect for my needs, with one exception -- I want to run it headless, and there do not appear to...

Learn me on Pentium-M's

I am building a small, low-power home file server/NAS box. I found a good price on the AOpen i855GMEm-LFS, which has what I need (esp. dual gig-E) and bought one, and now I need a CPU. Where's the best place to buy Socket 479 Pentium M's, and which ones will work in the AOpen i855GMEm-LFS? I know th...

Yeah, I considered ITX but as you mentioned, the better/more modern motherboards are pretty spendy. What's more, it probably won't work in the case that I am most likely going to use, which requires a riser for expansion cards. That MSI 945GT looks really cool, but it's about twice what I want to sp...

Low power, low cost recommendations?

I'm looking at building a network file server. Will probably use a Silverstone LC11 case, which takes a MicroATX motherboard. Noise isn't an especially big issue since this will be in an out of the way place, but I am concerned about power draw. So, keeping in mind that I will need to stick with Mic...

Thanks Don,

Yes, I have the aftermarket Shuttle PSU...so much for it being "silent" once one of those fans go...for now, I just pulled the bad fan. I ordered exactly the same Papst fans as you from Digikey yesterday, along with a handful of power connectors.

Shuttle SN41G2 power supply fan dimensions?

Simple question for anyone with experience. I know the Shuttle power supplies use a 40mm fan, but are they 10, 20, or 25mm thick? My wife's PS fan is going bad and I want to buy a pair of replacements, but I'd prefer to only crack open the PSU once. Also, any idea of what the CFM specs are for the s...

BIG SATA drive: DiamondMax 10 vs. 7200.8 vs. 7k500

I'm going to building a from-scratch system for myself for the first time in a couple of years. Too many new technologies out there, might as well. I'll be using a 74GB WD Raptor as my boot drive (which I feel is surprisingly quiet), but I also need a large SATA drive for bulk storage. In order of i...

Yeah, that's the Chenbro SR209. I've got my eye on one now. It's the same size as my PC611 which I love (except for the hard drive cage). It's pretty reasonably priced at $75 without PSU, but if you want the hot-swap SATA drive bay, that's another $120, then add another $100-125 for a good PSU and y...

You make no mention of what case you are using, or what settings you are using on those quiet components you bought (i.e. are you using the resistor adapter with the Zalman, etc.), or if you actually spent any time trying to analyze which parts were the primary cause for the noise. As mentioned befo...

Shuttle cubes - rear vent removal?

I just got a used (so modding will make me less nervous :P) Shuttle SN41G2 for my wife. The lack of open-ness of the rear punched out "mesh" has me convinced that removing this to make it so that the heatpipe fins were completely open would have a significant, positive affect on cooling and would al...

Which fanless HS for Epia M 9000?

I just got my Silverstone LC02 case and was assembling my new PVR project. The fan on my Epia M 9000 is astonishingly loud, so it's got to go; I unplugged it and CPU temps went to 62C, which doesn't exactly scare me, but I'd like to get a better HS on there that is more appropriate for passive cooli...

I'm looking at the Silverstone Lascala LC-02 as the foundation for a PVR. Does anyone have this case, and can you comment on its quietness? I've got a Raptor and it's really not that loud (very subjective, of course). There's no whine, seek noises aren't too bad, and the speed is addictive. I guess I'd rather have a "pretty quiet, very fast" machine over a "very quiet, nowhere near as fast" one 8)
