I would disconnect all fans and hdd's and isolate 1 at a time then.

Re: Need help with a Sonata III 500
If holding the side panels in stops the noise it is most likely vibration noise. I assume it is just the side panel door vibrating. A couple of easy options here. Check the drive vibrations and make sure your screws aren't too tight. OR add a thin layer of electrical tape around the edge of the side...

3 external 5.25"s is not that common except in Rack Mounts.

Silverstone FT03 Build
I've done a FT03 build to replace my Sonata:
Asus P8Z77-M Pro
Intel I7-3770
Noctua NH-U9B SE2
Radeon 6950 (not silent)
Basically I removed all fans but the top exhaust. Very efficent and low noise (apart from the GPU which is slightly noisy).

Re: Silverstone Fortress FT03 microATX Tower
I just did a build in the FT03 yesterday. I removed all of the fans in the case except for the top exhaust (which I will replace with a quieter fan on the weekend). I am running a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 on a Intel 3770 CPU. I am not using either of the Noctua fans. And I have an ATI Radeon 6900, 2 Hard d...

Here's a gallery of a rackmount build I did recently. Use a Noctua NH-U9B with no CPU fan.

Re: New PC Build - looking for advice
Are you sure the case is your noise issue? My money for noise would be on the video card fans, and maybe the case fans. And maybe the CPU fan. What fans have you got? I would be tempted to keep the case, and take some time isolating what is causing your noise, and see what you can do to get quieter ...

Re: Lian Li PC-C32B
How would you rate the hard drive decoupling in this case? The Hard Drives are clearly the noisiest item in the rig. (2 x 2TB Seagate). I probably could have chosen better drives for acoustics, but I know t hat these won't be overly problematics in the environment in which this will live (in an Aud...

I ended up with the Noctua NH9. Fitted well, and oriented right I didn't need to use the case fans in the Lian Li.

Re: Need Help On HTPC dont know what to get so hard to pick
I just built a PC-C32 for a friend.
http://bluecouch.com.au/?p=174
similar to the PC-C33, but without the two rear fans. I removed all the case fans for this one, they weren't needed.
Have you thought about one of these, and a NAS for your other drives?

Lian Li PC-C32B
All, I just build a silent rackmount build for a friend based on the Lian Li PC-C32B. I removed the case fans, and used the 90m Noctua heatsink fan and Seasonic X560W PSU fan as the only fans in the system. Here is a link and some thumbnails. http://bluecouch.com.au/?p=174 Under full Prime95 it maxe...

Re: New Rackmount silent build for a friend
Not really. The Lian li site http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=263&cl_index=1&sc_index=26&ss_index=68&g=spec says height is 167mm (assuming edge to edge - so less some for mobo and cpu) I know from here: http://xsreviews.co.uk/2011/02/lian-li-pc-c32/3/ that the Noctua NH-U1...

New Rackmount silent build for a friend
I need to build a Silent Rackmount system for AV. Currently looking at: Lian Li PC-C32, ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Mobo. Seasonic X-560 and need to choose a CPU cooler. Tempted to get a fanless, but need recommendations given their will be height restrictions. And then hook up a "Near Silent Fan" on the MId c...

I might give this a go passively and see how it goes. I have also done more testing, and it is failing about 1 in 5 startups on both lna adapters.

yeah, the stock HSF was pathetic. It would be hitting 100c within 30 seconds, and throttling down to stay under 100.

Re: Just installed a Noctua NH-C12P SE14
I have Qfan disabled, but I am having trouble getting the fan to tick over on startup when on the 900RPM adapater.
Annoying. So I have put it back on full voltage while I investigate.

It throttles at 100c so you are safe. By way of comparison I have the same chip with a Noctua SE14 and mine maxes out at 56C in a Sonata 2.

Re: Anyone using i7 950 with included boxed fan+heatsink ?
I had a similar experience with my Core I7-860. Hit 100 without even being pushed.
I have a Noctua SE14 installed now and at 100% load I am at 55c.
Next to undervolt a little and see how we go.

Just installed a Noctua NH-C12P SE14
I have a Core I7-860, and just tried it for a while with the stock cooler. Anyway it idled at 45-50c and peaked at 100c (was throttling down speed to keep heat under control). I just installed the Noctua NHC12P SE14, and I am using the Ultra Low Noise fan adapter that comes with it. Idles at 28-30c,...

If I remember correctly, you have 120mm of clearance from the top of the CPU to the bottom of the lid.
I thought it was 120m from the base of the case to the lid.. which would mke it liek 110.
This has been the biggest problem for me in getting an nsk2400

I am building a system around this too. and I have the same question. My current thought is to buy a Pioneer DVR-111D DVD Burner Dual Layer Silver OEM If this doesn't look good then I can go to plan B, which is rather extreme, and use Vinyl Dye on both the Drive and the case to ensure a perfect matc...
