Nexus 80mm case fans sporadically fail to start on ASUS M2N

Hi folks, I just built an HTPC in an LC20 with an ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe mobo. I have two 80mm Nexus as case fans and they often don't work when I turn on the computer. Sometimes they do. I replaced one of them with an 80mm Panaflo L1 and it starts every time like a charm, but it is louder. Any tips? T...

How much overkill are we talking?

Thanks Darthan,

How much overkill are we talking? Could I get away with the Zalman northbridge flower heatsink (ZM-NBF47)? Or do I need at least the ZM-80?

Thanks for the wisdom,
Brad

Does the VF900 work with a 6200A AGP? Zalman is unclear.

Hi Folks,

I have a 6200A AGP (Chaintech SA62A) and would like to put the VF900 on it. Zalman's website says that the VF900 won't work with the 6600 series (AGP). It says nothing about the 6200. Has anybody tried the VF900 on the 6200A?

Thanks,
Brad

What do you use to clean off old thermal paste etc.

Hi folks, The articles I've read about changing a heatsink suggest using a "general purpose alcohol-based cleaner, and plastic scraper" to remove the old thermal paste or tape etc. What is a general purpose alcohol-based cleaner? I don't want to apply the wrong thing (eg. something to strong) to my ...

How heavy can a clip mounted heatsink safely be?

Hello folks, I need a heatsink for my Athlon 1.3 Ghz proc. I don't want to take the motherboard out to mount a heatsink through the mobo holes, so I am left with a choice of heatsinks that mount with clips. I've almost decided on the Swiftech MCX370 copper. It is so much heavier than the AMD recomme...

Quieter 60mm fans available?

By the time you get a powerful enought fan to cool sufficiently it's damn near as noisey as the original 60mm fan
If that's the case, are there quieter 60mm fans available? I noticed one by Verax, would this be better?

Thanks

How do you use an 80mm fan in place of a 60mm fan?

Hi folks, It sure is nice to see so many Canadians represented! I've read a lot about using 80mm fans on heatsinks that came stock with a 60mm fan. Pardon my novice ignorance, but how do you accomplish this? I found some 60mm to 80mm Aluminum Fan Adapters at frozencpu.com, are those how you do it? T...
