I was wondering if that might be the case. I've got a whole herd* of HSF assemblies at home. Maybe I can find a 6-point clip that will work. I thought the proprietary nature of the Zalman flowers made their clips unique, what with the whole pin/pivot assembly in the middle. *Heatsinks come in 'herds...

The more I think about those plastic tabs the more I agree. I've been looking at those Alphas with the big 80mm fans on them. I can get two pretty quiet 80mms but they'll never be as quiet as a single 120mm blowing down on that whole mess of flower/fin thingies. The 3100s were working adequately too...

No luck on alternative clips

Per Zalman's suggestion, I contacted endpcnoise.com it turns out that they just use pull-ties to secure the clips in a criss-cross fashion through the 4 holes on the motherboard. While this sounds like a good idea it isn't really a new clip design or anything. Seems like Zalman should just design a ...

Zalman flower clip problems

I just got two of the 3100s and installed them on a dual Athlon system. http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/cnps3100P.htm Before I even finished the system, one of the clips popped off and toasted a CPU. It was still lying down in the horizontal position so there sure wasn't much stress being put on...
