Just a reminder - clean out the fan filters
Since its summer and everything gets a bit hotter, try clearing out the fan filters. Just done this to my SLK3000B case - the motherboard and cpu temps have dropped by a few degrees c, not a lot but then my fans at speed controlled - hence will now be slower, therefore less noise

Antec SLK3000B
Antec SLK3000B is a very good, pretty cheap case, you get very good cooling using the cpu duct as long the heat sink is a conventional flat one -a stock heatsink or a thermalright 120xp. It takes a couple of 120mm fans. My overclocked 3800 x2 (running at 2.4 ghz) is about 35c idle and 45c under load...

ive read a fair chuck of the forum about the software upgrade, does it just make eax stuff sound better? Having had fun with reinstalling the live card (was using the onboard sound cos the live was sooo bad) i think i may stick with the normal drivers for a little while, let us know if it really wor...

it may not work with all live cards, my mate's never suffered from a hissing problem, whereas mine did, i just thought that mine was a bit dodgy. Its like getting a new card - so much less noise, anyone any ideas what is causing the interference since the only common components between my new and ol...

how to improve ur soundblaster live and maybe othersoundcard
As u may have read in my other post (£100 sound card), i was really not happy with my soundblaster. It had way too much hiss, i have now fixed this, it is really easy, just take the metal bit (attaches to the case) off the pci card, no more hiss. I found this while reading reviewing of the 6fire (so...

arent the samsung only 5400 rpm, therefore too slow to run win xp - the start menu takes an age to appear - it did when i was running it off a 40gb ibm 5400 rpm drive. Since the slowet component in a pc is the hard disk, its one of the easiest ways (apart from ram) of speeding it up. Im more worried...

best sound card for listening to music under 100 quid (150$)
Just wondering, cos my soundblaster 1024 ive finally pulled - too much hiss and crashes too much. I currently using the onboard - much less hiss but less well defined sound. I tend to listen to mp3s so super sound quality isnt really an option, but would like nice sound, i currently output to a pana...

whats wrong with putting hard disks in biscuit tins?
Ive got 3 drives, i put the ibm 80gig in a tin with the lid shut inside my case. Normally the drive doesnt get above 37C and is much quieter. I know this is a bad move if u want to move the pc but i dont very often. I do live in the uk so not that hot but it still seems fine. I need to get rid of th...

my athlon xp 1.6 is running at 27C idle
my athlon xp 1.6 is running at 27C idle, this is partly due to running VCool (software that enables AMD chips built in power saver features - needed for all MS OS cos some motherboards block the signal). search for VCool from google. My chip still gets up to 50C under load, also i used coolermaster ...

Does modifying PSU invalidate household fire insurance
While reading one of the threads someone suggested a web page about using sand to cool hard disks, the website http://members.fortunecity.com/bluehat1/heatsink.html also mentions creating your own passive psu, but states "CAUTION: if a fire is caused for some reason, and it is suspected that a modif...

ebuyer sell the 80gb seagates
£65+vat but the problem with ebuyer is the returns policy - can take a while. I could do wth a 160gb hard disk and currently have a 80gb ibm - whiney as hell and gets hot - though not as bad as my 20gb maxtor at 5400rpm. Anyway found this and was wondering if anyone had one yet, also it may be worth waiting til u can get them before buying anyone elses hard disk. http://www.s...

I bought some of this to fit my new cooler fan for £3.50+VAT - not that cheap but avoided extra postage. In reviews i read it seemed to be almost as good as arctic silver 3, what i really like about it is how easy it is to apply. There are templates (sticky plastic) and a plastic card to smear the p...

Hi, i bought some of these from dabs.com, they were really cheap £3 + VAT. They only have drive (4pin) connectors which means u cant measure fan speed  but they have thermal sensors built in :D They seem to work well as case fans and since they are sleeve bearings they are quiet at low speed - ...

Software to cut cpu powerput - does it work?
I've recently been trying a program called VCool (athlons/durons only) from http://vcool.occludo.net/, it seems to work pretty well at reducing CPU temp - my Athlon XP 1600+ with a win XP zalman 6000 AlCu Heatsink running in silent mode is currently at 26 degree C, which I feel is pretty good  ...
