Bumping an old thread to see if there are new answers. No-one seemed to be getting particularly low power, given that WHS doesn't require any graphics and can take a slow CPU. Presumably current integrated graphics tends to draw power even if unused? Any motherboards in the works that could make fo...

Since all they want is internet access why not just buy them an eePC (or whatever cheep netbook you can find) and plug the monitor, keyboard and mouse into it? The eePC is fanless and even the spinny disks they use are near silent. I know its a lot less fun, but unless you have an endless supply of ...

I have a 4x2.5" hot swap backplane in my PC that fits in a standard 5.25" CD drive slot. I've seen (at Frys) a 2x2.5" hot swap backplane that fits in a 3.5" external (floppy) slot. It should not be impossible to fit 2x2.5" drives in the space of one "thin" CD drive, but I don't know if anybody actua...

...Since I'm still on a cable modem that gives me less than 10mb down and well less than that on the upstream I don't expect to be worrying about the port speed on my home switches. I don't do enough PC to PC traffic with large transfers to care that I'm on a 100 Mbit network at home... But you wil...

Yes, what you propose will work exactly as you plan. It is exactly the way my network is built today. Most Gigabit switches will also auto negotiate link speeds for each port, so you really don't need to worry about what devices you connect to it (i.e., feel free to connect you Wii to the gigabit sw...

saber saw + metal file? or big ass hole saw? just wondering... Wondering the same thing... Also, how did you mount the fan? I don't see any holes on the outside for screws or softmounts. I'm guessing glue or dual-sided foam tape? BTW, I just finished a build in a new Chieftec. I love Chieftec cases!

Re: thanks!
That's a good tip, I didn't even know they were carrying pico psus, and I'm at my local Fry's about once a week. They haven't been carrying it. I think its new for them and this is intro pricing. I hope it starts a good distribution relationship with the for Mini-Box. There's lots of things in thei...

Read the PicoPSU specs carefully. Even though they offer it as a 150W PSU they do not recommend actually using it at that load. Peaks at 150W are OK, but continuous operation over 8 amps on the 12V lead are not recommended. Read the specs on page 3. While it might well support your project, running ...

I'd consider something like the M350 from mini-box. See here: http://www.mini-box.com/M350-universal-mini-itx-enclosure;jsessionid=0a0106431f434e2896f7c51e4d7a8606bd4f0d383e8e.e3eSc3eMbxuPe34Pa38Ta38Rb3z0?sc=8&category=87. Use the 1200RPM fans front and back. Scythe, Noctua or even Nexus - you won't find much real difference (but you'll get lots of opinions...). Wire them to the 3-pin headers on your P6T. Turn off Q-fan in the BIOS and use speedfan to manage them down to 500RPM or so. Turn on Speedfan's automatic fan ...

I bought one of these to house a small, near-silent PC to live in a bedroom. Just needed light web browsing, itunes and e-mail. Took whatever parts I could get cheap/on sale/out of my bins. Atom 330 ITX MB (D945GCLF2) 2Gb generic DDR2 Hitachi 160Gb 7200 RPM laptop drive 2 40x10mm Mini-Kaze fans (one...
