Have you had any problems with the tiling ? I put some in my rig to (several layers on top of each other) and it does not stick all that well. Some (sides & top) would actually fall after a while ... Had to use extra strong glue to make the whole damn ting stick ... Yeah, it doesnt stick well at al...

Yes, the PSU's fan is wired to my motherboard. I control it via Speedfan, therefore it always starts at 12V (which is good to ensure it starts up) and then once Windows and Speedfan loads it is automatically dropped to 5% and under heavy load Speedfan automatically bumps it up to 8%. There is anothe...

You're going to need to get the overclocking bug out of ya if you want to get quiet. Extra heat and low noise don't work together. Nexus makes good fans, and Thermalright makes good heatsinks. More ram will probably make your system faster and probably not unstable. If 5v doesnt get you quiet from y...

From the Ipod's that I have seen they are silent in operation (apart from clicking of the buttons etc). I thought the iPod harddrive spins for only a fraction of the time the machine is working, and the rest of the time it parks the drive and reads from memory? Could be why the ones you've seen see...

Aluminum enclosure to make it perfect
come on... do it! My WD's sandwhiched in those with the hot/cold packs, with no fans blowing over, are chillin' at 36C right now. It helps, it really does.

Go to Home Depot and pick up some self-adhesive vinyl floor tiles. They're about 50 cents apiece for a 12 inch x 12 inch square. Get the good, heavy ones with the composite rubber layer. Very easy to cut with a hobby knife, very cheap, and four or five of those in your case will add considerable mas...

222 x 146 x 55mm (8.7"x5.7"x2.2") The Aluminum Box, $30 That's where I got mine, Vetco Electronics, two of them came out to $66.55 shipped. Then you just need to go to your local Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, what have you and buy two hot/cold gel packs that are slightly wider and longer than the enclosure it...

I've had the air holes on both my hard drives blocked off for some time by hot/cold gel packs sandwiching the drives inside an aluminum enclosure. Temps are lower than sitting bare in the case. I think if you do want to submerge them, the best way would be to go as ronrem was saying, I think... stic...

Really nice, great choice of components and nice work on the undervolting. I asume you were able to undervolt while keeping stock speeds, corect? One question and one suggestion: Is Yate Loon fan in the S12 is wired to the PSU's circuitry? And, I'm sure the HDD is the loudest part, and you've been a...

Very nice. Perhaps you could get away without the intake? Maybe swap the fan on your Zalman CPU cooler for a Nexus, and stick a Zalman or Aerocool cooler on your video card. That's all I can think of, oh wait, hard drive enclosures (make your own - cheaper and better!). Alright that's enough peer pr...

You can upgrade your power supply and keep it when you upgrade the rest of the system. I'd be careful in making sure it can still power an older motherboard, though. (ie, you might want to experiment with plugging in a 24-pin connector into a 20-pin connection on the board. From what I hear, it can...

The homebrew drive enclosure I put together about a year ago is still working perfectly. Agreed. The two I made based off of alleycat's pictures do wonders. I hardly noticed any difference after suspending with Stretch Magic, but these homemade enclosures make all the difference in the world, and t...

haha thanks guys. They'll love it, but it's kind of one of those gifts that they're not going to fully appreciate until they have to use someone else's loud computer. I'm excited for waking up early (I'm shooting for 2:30-3 a.m.) and doing the transplant - I have to be as covert as possible. Not a s...

Nevermind, nevermind! Whew... so I was googling around for "make a 24 to 20 pin adatper" and I came across some other guys on another forum talking about the adapters and how most 24 pin PSU have a part that "break away" from the other 20 pins, thus making it a 20 pin PSU, too. So... I looked to see...

Anyone know how to make a 24 to 20 pin adapter?
So... I was hoping to suprise the family by putting their old computer in a quiet case for Christmas. But as luck would have it the PSU is 24 pin and their mobo is 20 pin. I ordered a 24-20 pin adapter on the 21st and if it was shipped priority mail it should be here today, but it doesn't look like ...
