The most selled i7, the 920, uses around the same power as the tested CPU in D0-revision, doesn't it? AFAIK, there are 2 variants of the i7-920, both rated for 130W TDP. My hands on experience with two samples of the i7-920 convinces me that it does indeed pull something like 130W. Our Pentium D950...

- Heavier than a Ninja or HR-01 - More expensive than a Ninja or HR-01 plus a Nexus 120mm fan - Worse cooling than a Ninja 2 or HR-01 I think this thing is obsolete before it even rolls off the production line. Obsolete is a very strong word, a serious overstatement here. You also bend the data to ...

For a single piece of hardware they should give levels in Sound Power (SWL), not pressure. It's easier to calculate and there is not the same problems, becuase the power level is the power level, regardless of distance. AtW Better in terms of a repeatable value but definitely not easier... unless y...

Once you go with liquid you'll never go back. I have to laugh when people try to talk air up like it can even come close. It can't. I am considering going back, I have a reserator setup. It works well, and was a very good solution durings its day. But now? I can hear the pump, even when placing the...

I'd also consider the new WD or Samsung 500GB/platter drives over the Hitachi. Their TB drive was originally 5 platters, and (i think) they only updated it to 4 platters some time ago but haven't really caught up to the ones we mentioned. Also, make sure that S1 is a Rev.2! I am pretty sure they up...

You'd have to mod the S1 to fit the 4770- chop off 1" from the left end of all the fins. However the 4850 might be able to be cooled passively, and an S1 also fits... With one intake (Noctua S12 at 800rpm~), and one CPU fan in the case (also at 800rpm~) my 4850 under an S1 overheats (in the sense o...

I might be trying that, seems like a bit of a waste to use the 4850 when its more expensive, uses mu...

You won't be able to get a S1 on a 4770. The GPU position is too far to the left. Dammit, that is a bummer. I was pretty set on the 4770 now, and evetuelly upgrading the GPU later, due to the difficulity of cooling the 4890. Do you know any coolers that do fit, wich are effective? And as a side que...

Is the 4890 Vapor-x as quiet as the 4850-model? I also notice that is seems to have other cpacitors, does that mean that it will not suffer from coil-whine? THe cooling solution is alse a bit uniqe, does this mean that it will be problematic to change to a accelereo s1 on the vapor-x, should i decid...

I have the following setup planned. Antec P180 or eventually buy me a p183. MB MSI X58 Pro-E Intel Core i7 920 Thermalright HR-01 Plus with some fan. VGA: Some AMD 4770 or 4890 variant. Accelero S1 GPU cooler. Seasonic M12D 850W, eventually the Enermax Modu 625, but its hard to get a hold of here in...

Here is a picture of the mobo http://nvision.pl/img/200904/msi_x58_pro-e_02.jpg Would it be a possibility to just just thermal adhesive and glue a cooler like the thermalright hr05 or similar to the smaller part of the heat-pipe-setup? Even the smaller of the to coolers is pretty irregular though, s...

MSI i7-build, when does the Mobo draw the most power?
I am planning in a i7-build, and i want it to be quiet, quiet in the sense that i can't here that its on. However som people have reported problems with overheating the NB on z58-boards, and on MSI in particular, since a quiet build won't have a very large aiirflow i am a bit concerned about this. A...

The real reason is marketing. High end manufacturers purposefully make their stuff big and heavy because those attributes actually score them points on reviews, as the old school line of thought is that size and weight = quality. My Class D from Harman Kardon is gigantic for no good reason other th...

I don't need an ABX to tell that there is a real, audible difference between 32 kHz and 48 kHz audio Yes you do. The whole point about ABX is not to prove differences where the differences are very small and you are not sure if you are hearing them, but to disprove differences when you think you ca...

In fact, I would suggest that having a silent HTPC is more important than having any other PC that is silent. I agree ... but it seems I'm a dissenting opinion at SPCR. I've also tried using my HTPC for gaming, and it was not a particularly good experience because my TV overscans the edges of the s...

I don't see what RAID support would add to WHS. It's disk management is one of it's niftier features. Given that the network would be the main bottleneck, there would be no real performance gain. It will store files redundantly (2 copies on 2 separate drives) if you so choose to spend the disk spac...

I have the impression that the chipset actually runs a lot hotter than the Atom CPU. Too bad they don't have an equally frugal chipset to pair with an Atom in nettops and netbooks. There's of course Poulsbo, but isn't that mostly paired with the lower-power Silverthorne? Poulsbo's driver support is...

I can't help but to think that asus could have made this computer fanless with just a little bit of work, the extremly small Dell inspiron 901 has almost nok heatsinks, and runs fanless with an stom, the chipset doesn't draw as much of course, but this box has much mor room and 11 watt is a pretty s...

Although the WD Caviar GP will have one feature that's sure to be interesting - IntelliPower. It'll slow the drive down to 5400RPM when idle and speed it up to 7200RPM when in use. It'll be interesting to see how the various "next gen" drives stack up. :) You've got it wrong - they're 5400RPM drive...

Cheaper and less error prone, maybe? Error prone for whom? If they're error prone, they're poorly designed. . Yeah, I have never had any "errors" with cables detaching and such in the other end (that is the end attaching to mobos, drives and so on), so I wouldn't think it was a problem in the PSU-e...
