thermistor fans
I was just curious....how advisable is it to snip the thermistors off?? i've noticed a definite speed decrease in my fans if i cut the darn things away. So slow that my monitoring program can't read the speeds. i was just curious, since i did this, should I keep an eye on my temps?? I did some modif...

well, i went ahead, and basically completely voided the warranty on my psu. I removed the faulty fan, and cut the grill to fit an 80mm fan on the inside of the computer case. No more mechanical hum or cracking, just wind noise now, gonna have to tweak the fan speeds. Also, I taped the grill that was...

PSU mod in sonata
My old enermax whisper series has finally developed some issues with the 80mm exhaust fan. Not only does it tick, it hums incredibly loud. First of all, let me express my confusing on the design of the thing. If you've got 92mm fan blowing in from the case, and an 80mm as the exhaust, that would req...

Re: yet another sonata
Yes, this seems very likely if you have negative case pressure. I suggest trying to run the system without the second fan in the PSU, not forgetting to monitor the temps before and after  I would suggest you reverse your setup, sucking from the cd-rom bays and isolating it from the case, and ...

yet another sonata
Here's the pc...pretty quite, only noticeable noise is coming from the psu's exhaust fan, which I want to replace. My duct is hard to see. Basically, I closed off the area around the cd-roms, so that the psu's exhaust is only pulling air in from the case, and not from the cd-roms. It's probably a ba...

that psu has plenty enough power, if my Athlon 64 3400+ with 1gb ram, radeon 9800, 2 7200rpm HDD's and 2 optical drives will run then so will that system Als I don't recomend the usage of the fan only connectors. The system will strart up quieter but they go off the psu temp and so when the psu warm...

Re: Antec True Power
I feel it's not a faulty power supply, but bad power to his room, since it worked fine from a cold boot in my room. So, what i'm really curious about, is based on the system specs, and assuming the psu isn't faulty, does the 380W have enough juice to power his system?? That good cold boot tends to ...

Antec True Power
My roomate recently purchased an antec truepower 380W psu. While it's by no means silent, the fan only connectors have made his computer much quieter than it was. The reason he got the thing was because the computer was restarting randomly at the windows loading screen. the system specs are: Abit AN...

acoustifan not quiet?
From all the reviews I'd read, I'd assume the fan would be quiet without the use of the in-line resistor. The one I own is currently the loudest component of my system before it even warms up(thermistor model)...so, can anyone else attest to this? Should I use the resistor?? I've got two thermistor ...

I just installed it..and oddly, my case temps went up a degree..the card's temps dropped a few...i thought the advantage of the thing was that it removes heat from the case...anyone have any suggestions? edit: I may have made a mistake....I used as5 on the gpu, as well as the ram....was this a bad i...

Fan vibration, fan grilles, the whoosh and possible bearing/motor noise all add up. Pulling air over the hdd-cage? In most setups you really should have the front fan pushing air into the case, not pulling it out. Try listening to the fan outside the sase holding it in your hand and put it on the t...

help identifying noise!
I posted this somewhere else, in case anyone sees it twice, i apologize: I have a sonata case, and recently i purchased 2 temp controlled fans....one being the acoustifan, and another the smartfan by antec. Without the fans on, the machine is mor or less inaudible thanks to the fanmate on the cpu an...

wispermat availability
I was wondering if anyone knows of any places aside from muffledcomputing.com and silentsource that sell wispermat. Silentsource sells whispermat with melamine for $6.88 per square foot, but you can only buy the melamine wispermat from them in sheets of 27 square feet sections. If you buy their hush...

I currently have a zalman 7000cu, and an Antec sonata case. I know, bad case decision, my fault for being uneducated. I sold the truepower to my roommate, and ended up only spending $50 bucks for it. Currently I've got a 465W Enermax ancient whisper series, and while I'm sure some think they're loud...

Hushfoam and wispermat
I've been looking around for some damping materials today, and i've found a few materials that aren't mentioned in the forums, at least the search feature hasn't found them. First i found wispermat here , and here . There isn't any acoustic specs listed at either site, but pricing isn't bad at all. ...

Ok, so the zalman would be a quieter solution, and since i'll be putting in a second 120mm fan, even though i've heard mixed reviews on how well that actually helps, i assume it will be ample airflow over the card. My final concern is temperatures. With the second 120mm fan, would I have ample airfl...

NO! GET RID OF THE ANTEC SMARTFAN! The worst purchase I have EVER made for my computer!!! What's so bad about it? from what i can gather through reviews is that it's like the acoustifan, just lower in quality... And in reply to the post by Spod, idealy, i'd be putting the temp sensor on the heatpip...

Which VGA cooler??
I currently own an Antec Sonata case. Soon i'll be getting an X800pro and a second 120mm fan. Eventually i'll have an acoustifan and an antec smartfan. Now, I was planning on getting the pro vivo version and attempt a bios flash that would get me an x800 xt, possibly PE as i've heard of people doing...
