Bit of necromancy, but Google threw this up as a top hit so why not. I'm stunned that no one has mentioned that hard drives spin down on command. An ssd with a 3.5", 7200rpm is fantastic for silence since you just turn the hard drive off when you're not using it. As a storage drive, that's most of ...

You cannot have both slowest spindle and highest capacity. Which of the two is primary? Highest possible capacity with as slow spindle as possible for that capacity = 2000GB, either WD Green WD20EADS or WD20EARS, or Samsung F3 Ecogreen Lowest possible spindle for highest possible capacity at that r...

Re: VGA coolers take too many slots
I know from friend's of mine using SLI, it's not worth the hassle. No experience with crossfire but I can tell you it will add more heat to your case to manage.Jay_S wrote:Is SLI/crossfire really worth the issues/hassle vs one higher-powered card?chico1st wrote:I wanted to use an SLI system ...

Power Brick Question
Hi, i'm looking to get a D945GSEJT motherboard and it takes one of those power bricks. Can I just use the one that came with my asus eee netbook? How do I know which power bricks will work with the D945GSEJT and which ones are the most efficient? Thank you for the help, this forum is the best.

I would also would like to know a solid answer on the OP's question. Like I put an athlon xp 1900+ palamino in a motherboard that doesn't recognize the cpu, so it shows up as an "unknown cpu" in my bios and in windows, and it bothers me. Not sure if there are any negatives other than the name not sh...

Re: Memory - Whats more important, Latency vs Mhz ?
So, I am looking at putting an i5 750 with a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3. This mobo supports the follwing memory speeds: DDR3 - 1066 DDR3 - 1333 DDR3 - 2200 DDR3 - 800 I am having trouble getting my head around speed (Mhz) versus latency. Is it better to have faster memory, or lower latency (or both if mon...

freedos is (last I looked a couple yrs ago) an open source clone of MS-Dos. No real feature upgrade. I'd consider it a Neanderthal OS, (a kernel actually) and not viable myself. There are several Linux distros specifically aimed at low dram and legacy cpus. Check out puppy Linux for example. +1 Vot...

all these native PATA or CF-PATA ideas are nice and all, but at this point I don't see any way how it's going to beat the price/performance of Kingston's intel-G2-based V-series 40GB drive + pata-sata convertor. Well my CF card in my CF to IDE adapter has Lifetime Warranty threw Transcend. How long...

The Nexus PSU shouldn't be a problem, it's reasonably high quality. If I could run a Core2Quad OC 3.2GHz and GTX260 off a Seasonic S12II 330w the Nexus should be fine with any single GPU card. If your old video card has the power you want / need for the games you want to play I would re-use it. As ...

Personally, I wouldn't run any OS that is not receiving security updates anymore. This means no DOS/95/98/Me/2000. (Only because most of what I use a computer for requires the internet. If you're running a single player classic gaming machine, go run whatever.) What the hell man? That's not True! W...

A PATA C.F. Adapter is a PASSIVE adapter - think it as a 2'5" IDE to 3,5" IDE adapter. It only does a mechanical conversion and has not any chip for converting the signal (it would be easier to explain if you ever see one). So the speed only depends on your C.F. (and not every C.F. does support UDM...

A C.F. PATA adapter does only link the C.F. pins to the PATA pins and adds a power connector for powering up the C.F. So the speed only depends on the quality of your C.F. Are you sure that's completely true? A PATA C.F. Adapter is a PASSIVE adapter - think it as a 2'5" IDE to 3,5" IDE adapter. It ...

Question about my Antec Earthwatts 380
I did a fan swap on my antec earthwatts 380W with a 1000rpm undervolted arctic cooling fluid bearing 80mm fan, but i'm a bit worried about if it is enough cooling for it to safely run. The PSU does not seem warm to the touch at all, but I have no idea if it's hot as hell on the inside. Do you think ...

As for CF-to-IDE, all benchmarks Ive seen show abysmal performance. The Kingston intel-based V-series are actually quite affordable, and I think it's a viable upgrade for my aging system once trim support gets implemented. My CF-to-IDE Transcend Drive is faster than my Seagate Momentus 5400rpm 60GB...
